Long time, no see. I haven't been on craftster in more than a year because I have been so busy with school. But now I have time to make and post all of those things I have been dreaming up all year. I am a design major at ucla and because housing sucks, I havent had enough room to do any crafts or sewing until now, when I can get a double. But anyways, here is my final project for my typography class. We had to hand bind 40 of our best typographic designs into a well planned and thought out book. Each design is
for a book cover for oscar wilde's the picture of dorian gray, and I wanted to make all of my designs pop, so I made a pop up book to go along with that theme. So here it is, I had a couple of glue/cutting problems since it was my first bookbinding adventure, but I hope I get a decent grade for it.

Here is the cover with the yellow band thingy around it (that comes off).

It has a pull out feature that changes the color of the title and shows my name and class and everything.

content page.

Here is a chapter divider. The letters popout when you lift the flap and there is another pull out feature on transparency that lists the specifications of each assignment, along with another transparency with my comments bound into the spine of the book.

Here are a couple of my type designs with front, back, and spine matter. The pages fold out from the spine of the book.

Here is another chapter divider. They vary from red, blue, and yellow on each chapter.

Sorry for the mediocre pictures. I was packing when I took them before I ran to turn the book in and I only had my desk lamp. But I hope you like them!

This is a fantastic piece of work! You seem to have an excellent eye for graphics- the boldness of it all works very well!

I love the pull tab on the cover- it grabbed me right from the start and made me want to keep looking! And, the Contents page is slick! Then, the chapter dividers- love them- and I love how they are not as wide as a full page- it makes it than much more interesting.

I really want to hold the completed book in my hands and fully explore it! If you don't get an A on your project, send it to me and I will re-grade it for you Wink

Your attention to detail is impressive. And, while I like the story, what you did with it just makes it that mych better!

Very, very, very well done and inspiring! Now I want to go and dig out all of my book-making books and have a go...

The choices you make today determine the choices you will have tomorrow.
