I've gone through a headband phase. I messed around with shape after shape until I came up with something that (I think) fits wonderfully. It's not too tight but stays on securely. Plus...it's really 2 headbands in 1 since it's totally reversible.

I have a little tutorial and a PDF of the templates on my blog.

If you make one, I'd love to see it!  Grin

Cheers!

Super cute!!  But my question is, will they fit on an oddly shaped head?  (well, maybe not oddly shaped, but one that doesn't normally accept headbands?)...  I love your fabric choices, too!

Glad y'all like it!

Malina...I'd try the narrow version. not sure what you mean by "odd" shape, but it seems to be the narrow version would be pretty sturdy for anyone. Also, try to gauge if it's coming off because it's too loose or too tight...but cases can cause it to come off. Once you know why it's happening you can shorted the elastic or trim the ends of the template a bit.

Cheers!

tried your tutorial last night (will post a pic later) and I'M IN LOVE!  so easy to make, took me all of 20 minutes, and now i can wear headbands all the time!  i had to tweak the length of elastic a little bit (i must have a big head!) but seriously totally easy.

thanks for posting this tutorial!  you made my day!

My sister just bought a headband exactly like this and I'm usually not a headband person but I tried it on because it was a cute zebra print and I couldn't resist and I immediately thought of making one because of how well it fit. Now I can because you're awesome and have been so generous to share this tutorial. Thanks for making it so super easy to follow. I'll post a pic after I make one. Thanks!

Yay! I can't wait to see what y'all come up with. I've just been using scraps I had lying around and I'd really like to see some in different fabric!

If you cannot read PDFs, send me your email address and I can email you a jpg.

Cheers,
Suzanne

PS - for the craftster who wanted to use the plastic headbands. The best thing I can think if is to make a "form" out of stiff interfacing or even some cardboard padded with batting. Then wrap that in fabric or ribbon etc and then GLUE it to the top of a plain plastic headband. I've seen that done a couple of places and it seemed to work well.

Will this stay on without the elastic part?
See, I saw a headband on Etsy and its one that doesnt go all the way round (like the drugstore kind but fabric) and it says it has interfacing in it.. which I'm guessing is the only thing keeping its shape. But I can't figure out how they did it!

Loved your headband! Would you like to submit it to our contest for a chance to win $200 in craft supplies? We would reprint it as a contest winner with a credit and a link to your blog. I think it would be a good fit for our teen and sewing pages. http://www.freekidscrafts.com and click on contest for rules and regs.

Thank you so much!! I prefer making my own headbands to buying them, so this is awesome. <3 I'm going to make one tonight, in fact. But I'll have to do it by hand since the sewing machine hates me. Wink

Oh this is very exciting. I love headbands but they always fall off or dig in behind my ears. I'm definitely going to try this.

Oooh, I love it! Great job! My daughter is a total headband fanatic, but those plastic ones always give her a headache, so I think she'll adore these.
