I know that tech schools often offer sewing classes, sometimes city recreation departments do, too. Otherwise if there's a fabric or quilting store near you?

Try joanne's fabric.  I think they have classes.  I think the one in Gurnee does (I am from Antioch/Lindenhurst now in madison).

I know gurnee is kinda a haul for you but maybe that will point you in the direction you need.

There is a sewing class that I'm going to go to at UW Parkside in a couple weeks (I think!). I'm not sure on the date but if ur interested it's $25 and there will be a lady to answer miscellanious questions... I'm not too sure about all the details but its something to think about!
