Oh knitwit! I missed your yarn last time I looked at this thread! SO AMAZING!!! How do you make coils?

Coils are easy. Ply a short length of single against thread or another single. Pause and push what you've spun forward to bunch it up. Coils on thread are easier for me, because if you're trying to make a coil around a core ply made from a single you have to be careful not to unspin the core ply.

As to the people wondering what optim is [for future reference] Optim is simply merino that's been mechanically stretched to create a longer, finer, softer fiber.

thanks! TheBon put it perfectly. I was wondering about optim as well... sounds very interesting!  Smiley

coils are fun to do but be warned they eat into your yardage big time.

Wow!  The colors, the photos, the chatchkies...sheesh!  Great job everyone!  I can't seem to get away from purple!  I have broken out into more colorways, but it is for a swap, so I must save it for later!

Here is 'Sugar Plum'

Everyone is just doing such a beautiful job of photographing their yarns...I must get some lessons!!!

This is my first thick and thin. It's sooooo soft. I have no idea what to do with thick and thin. For now I guess I'll just stroke it. Wink

After not picking up my spindle for a couple of months, I decided to try it again and I spun up two teeny skeins this week for practice. Cheesy And I finally got past "park and draft"!
sorry for the bad lighting... I couldn't wait to take pictures. XD

spun from roving from mainewoodsyarn.etsy.com
appx 19yds  merino/corriedale  appx 22wpi

silk hankies I nabbed on ebay
appx 12 yds  2ply  appx 12 wpi

I adore spinning with the silk hankies! I can't wait to buy more!

I also just ordered 8 oz of roving from spunky eclectic yesterday for the first time. I'm so excited I can't even stand it! lol
