This is my first foray into larger needle felting. I made it for a lovely Craftster-chica in exchange for some cool craft books. It's over a metal armature, which i'm not sure really helped me other than make the beak magnetic, which was something i really wanted. He has his on little tiny rockfish(stripped bass) that he can have for dinner, or drop on people's heads. The nest is fairly acurate to actual osprey nests (i think) which look like a gigantic jumble of driftwood and branches. My boyfriend was kind and took the pictures for me, but wasn't able to get the close up detail of wings and tail. Overall, i'm pretty happy with it, though i made the legs too long and i'm really NOT happy at all with the claws/talons. next time maybe. anyhow. here are pics.

Super concept and really like the going beyond simple needle felting with the magnetic beak, the nest, the fish.  Definitely the first needle felted osprey I've encountered. Well done!  Thanks for sharing it here.

I love the needle felted Osprey! The Osprey's near my home have been really loud lately!  This morning I woke up at 5:30 am to sound of the bird's loud call. Later that day, I watched an Osprey with my binoculars on a tree-top, eating a fish!  So cool!  Yours looks just like the one I saw.

I love that you made him a nest too! I've been wanting to make a felt bird, but the shapes seems really fiddly and difficult.

I'm a wildlife rehabilitator in florida and this bird is very accurate! So is his nest! Lucky girl on the other end of your swap!
