I just recently finished this project.  I got the board at a yard sale, and made the chess pieces from spools, drawer pulls, candle cups and various assorted small wood parts.

That is SOOO cool! I love chess (Not that good at it, though!) I have never thought of making my own set... how awesome! I had to "This Rocks!" You did a great job!

Actually I don't even have this anymore.  Somebody offered me money for it, so I sold it.

I want to make another one with tinker toys, but I haven't had the time to get back to it.  Too many other fun things to do.

Thats really neat! I was actually thinking about making a checkers board and pieces. I don't know how to play chess. Awesome job, though!
