Finally.. a friday where I have photos and everything!

Both the fiber and the spindle were purchased at MDS&W and neither has been away from my side since. Yes, I have even brought it into work. It's a slow week and when the boss is out, I've pulled it out a couple of times.

This picture was taken on wednesday or so. I've since then filled up the spindle, wound it off and started over and I''ve spun back up to where I was in that pic. I can't believe how quickly and smoothly the Golding spindle spins, and I'm thrilled with the results I'm getting with it. I mean.. laceweight!!

And.. NEXT friday.. I should be getting my wheel that I ordered at MDS&W!

MDS&W: Is this the MD Sheep and Wool Fest?  Which vendor did you get your drop spindle from?  I was looking at some but I couldn't decide.  Is this a local vendor?  Thanks!!

Pertiful yarns as usual, guys and gals!

I've been up to other things this week, so I have a teeny bit of natural (un-dyed) hand-carded alpaca spun up.  It's .6 ounces, 35 yards of fingering-sport weight.

Looking forward to seeing more yarns in this week's gallery!

I'm a long-time FF lurker and first-time poster here. As always, I love to look at everyone's work. At some point I'll become less intimidated and post myself. In the meantime:

Isamax: How do you make felted fiber and what do you use it for?

Boulderbliss: Your dyed roving is so luscious. Gorgeous.

Artsgal: Beautiful photo and even beautifuller yarn. I wish I could get my spindle yarn to be so even.

I would love to do a personal swap for some cotton napkins...

It sure is. I got it from the golding booth itself. Their stuff is so gorgeous, and my 2 biggest missions for MDS&W were to get a laceweight drop spindle and test out as many wheels as possible in anticipation of buying one. I got the spindle.. I'm loving it! And I tested out enough wheels to place an order for one. It should be here friday.

And trust me.. I have enough fiber for the next SEVERAL fiber fridays. The trunk of my car is full. I haven't even had the time to sort though it all and take inventory yet.

Fiber Friday posts are the highlight of my week - I love to see what everyone's been spinning, and get so many ideas for my own yarn.

No picture from me this week - not that they'd be very exciting anyway.  I spent this week handcarding a blend cashmere, silk, and merino and spinning in worsted weight yarn.  It's lovely and sproingy and soft, though not very exciting to look at - being plain white.  Perhaps pictures next week once it's done and dyed.

Beautiful yarns this week, as always!  Fiber Fridays are such a highlight!

Yesterday, the wife of one of my coworkers dropped by with something for me.

They have 6 alpacas and just got back their first load of processed fiber.  They had given me some very un-processed (straight off the animal) fiber in the past, which I've been spinning from time to time.  But this...  1 pound of cleaned and carded Alpaca!  Wow.  It is so soft and it took ALL of my self control to not just duck out of work and go home to spin.  It sat on my desk for 3 hours...  Cheesy

So, last night I spun up 50g.  I got about 80 yds of worsted weight 2 ply.  This is the most even yarn I've ever produced!

I'm going to try dying some to see how it looks overdyed.  Next spinning:  lace weight alpaca!!

if you can't be a good example then you'll just have to be a horrible warning.
