In honor of my sister's birthday, I put together oodles of embroidered stuff for her.  I used white linen placemats she sent me for my birthday and vintage Mexican transfers to make a kitschy duo, and I also stitched up 4 Mexican food napkins:

The napkins have little Mexican food-based characters I drew when I was craving Mexican food: Mr. Taco, Mr. Quesadilla, Mr. Chile and Senor Tamale. I bought a pack of cotton napkins at Bed Bath and Beyond, whipped out a pencil, and went nuts:

The last 2 sayings are in Spanish and are inside jokes in our family... now all I need to do is get to the post office! Smiley

i love your work! i was so inspired with your mexican girl on a tee-shirt that i had to make one, too. i used some beading to enhance the flowers. i've had lots of compliments. i so "get" your inside family jokes.  my father-in-law used to say--when he answered the phone after someone said hello--"Quien te jalo?"  anyway, i really liked the napkins with your retro couple. you do fabulous work. would you mind if i "lift" your pattern for mr chile? my daughter's kitchen is decorated in chiles. i might have to explain the meaning to her--she is very Spanish-challenged.

thanks joolz (I LOVE your stuff, too!), amberbrown, lariarocket, and march! Smiley

Seriously, I am cracking up imagining your father-in-law saying that...  my dad is such a joker it's all we can do to get him to stop speaking Spanglish and just pick one language... Cheesy  Now I have the same disease, I guess!

Aww... you're welcome to use Mr. Chile!  I can't exactly patent a chile with feet and the expression "me enchile", can I?  Ok, I guess maybe I could, but this is Craftster!  My only requirement is that you show us the chile you made!  Wink
