I am feeling inspired by the ban on plastic bags in San Francisco.  I recycle my plastic bags from the stores, however, I hadn't thought about all the energy (OIL) that goes into making these bags.  I plan on making several for my friends and family to reduce our impact!

I found this pattern (you have to sign up to get it) from Lily and wanted to start a crochetalong.

If you have another pattern that you would like to try for a reusable shopping bag - feel free!  I would love to have the link, my goal is to find the easiest to make, sturdiest bags possible.

I saw this "reduction tote bag" and it seems like a good one to keep handy in your purse for shopping trips. I like the one you posted from sugar & creme since I have so much of that in my stash!

I have several patterns and a tutorial on how to make plastic bag yarn here http://www.myrecycledbags.com/2007/02/17/instructions-for-cutting-plastic-bags-creating-recycled-plastic-yarn/

These bags made from recycled plastic bags are really strong. Check out my website for free patterns here http://www.myrecycledbags.com/my-pattern-links/

I would like to join in for a CAL to make a shopping tote too!   Smiley

i made the one by lily/sugar and cream. back then, i made it with acrylic. it held up pretty nicely... i gave it away, so i don't know how it's doing right now.

i'd love to slash some of my stash with some of these patterns.

i'm in... although, i might throw in a knit bag too

go knit!  if you find something very easy for knitting send it over to me, I am all for it, however my knitting skills are  Sad  sad sad sad!

I am planning on going to Hobby Lobby, as they are having a special on Lily Sugar & Cream!  I like buying new yarn and it is a good excuse to buy yarn (the environment!)

Me again - got started last night, the Lily sugar and cream is on sale at Hobby Lobby this week!  This is a manly version for my sig other, who won't carry anything pink or resembling pink.  Silly boys.

Well - Manly it did not turn out.  I saw a girl at healthservices who had an urban outfitters bag that looked just like the one I was working on - only lined.  Yes.  I had to have it.  I looked on the website to see how much it was - must have been last years, wasn't on there.  However, the cheapest purse was $38.  I paid $1.50 for lining, $2 for cotton yarn.  And stress relief crochet!  Go me.

I have started the next one, which will remain a grocery bag.  I hope more people decide to join this crochet along.  This is an important topic:  REDUCE your consumption!  There is no need to get another plastic bag when you can carry your food home in a nifty crochet bag that also shows off your talents!

I just finished cutting my plastic bags today for this CAL. I want to do a recycled plastic bag shopping tote. I hope to begin this weekend but have another wip that is taking up my time. But rest assured I'll get going very soon on this shopping bag CAL!  Smiley

My first post in a LONG time!  Just wanted to let you guys know that I'm right there with you.  I've finished a crochet bag from ... ahem... "vintage, recycled" yarn.  It's HUGE, more of a beach bag, but perfect for this summer.  Also cutting strips for a recycled bag tote bag.  I'll post pics soon!

Already working on the Crochetme pattern. Ecru and black for the bottom and handles, and red and mexican for the mesh. If I haven't murdered the thread accidentally by posting I'll put up pics when I take them.  Tongue
