I have knit a couple of baby blankets using that stitch and varigated yarn, and they turned out beautifully!  I had forgotten that I had made them until I read your post.

Wow thanks!  Smiley I have a penchant for buying variegated yarn cos it looks sooo pretty in the skein but whenever it knits up it just looks like.. well. poo. (Does anyone else have this damn problem?! I always wear black, I love black, but do I ever buy black yarn? nooooo...)  Tongue

The chevron scarf from last minute knitted gifts is also an awesome pattern for any variegated yarn - and it's really easy too, just a bunch of increases and decreases. Check out the flickr group: http://flickr.com/groups/chevronscarf/

It sounds like it might take some practice to get a nice even finish like you have here.
janaana, it doesn't take any practice at all!  The pattern is what makes the ends look so finished: that's what's so cool!   Cheesy

Slipping the first stitch of every row instead of knitting/purling it always makes the edges look tidier. I tend to do it whenever I knit something in stockinette or garter stitch.

Thanks for adding the picture of the sides & back. I had been wondering if both sides looked more or less the same.

I completely agree!

Here's my linen stitch scarf:

It didn't look like much in the photo in my stitch dictionary, but oh, how it is delightful with variegated yarn!

Oo, that looks great nemka!

Thank you!  Although, I should mention one caveat: this scarf will take me the rest of my natural life to complete.  Not only is it very thin yarn, the linen stitch is very dense--the rows sort of settle into each other, if that makes sense.
