I am about to publish my website with Yahoo - the small business starter package - and I have a question for anyone who has ever sold or tried to sell so-called "racy" items online. I make vagina earrings and magnets - that is, earrings and magnets shaped like vaginas. Has anyone trying to sell items like these ever run into problems with the online morality police? Although my work is not in any way sexual - feminist and artistic, yes; sexual and immoral, no - I'm wondering if a host like Yahoo would have a fit about my selling these items. Anyone?

PS: Having lurked here for months and months, I'm fully aware of the Craftster crowd's interested in vagina-related items, so rest assured that you'll be the first ones to see the new site!

Dude, just advertise in Bust, and you'll have enough feminists & lesbians behind you, you could rasie such a protest if someone complained about the nature of your artwork that they'd wish they hadnt. Bust mag will definately support you as an advertiser.

some large hosting sites will remove your stuff if they see it as innapropriate- but ive only heard o fit inthe context of (male) gay porn books/videos/etc.

(edit to add): their removal is more a reflection of our soceity.  so i dont think you would have too many problems.

I honestly can't imagine you getting any sort of flak for it, esp. b/c the context is not sexual.

Yahoo may take it upon themselves to classify it as "adult", if it's hosted on their site.  My sister runs a size-activism group in Seattle, nothing at all sexual about it, just fighting fat prejudice, and Yahoo put them in the "adult" category for their YahooGroups mailing list, so that you have to click that you're at least 18 years old to get to it.  They don't even host their website on Yahoo, this is just for the mailing list.  Why they decided it was "adult" material, I don't know.
