Guten tag!

My boyfriend and I are taking a trip to Munich soon and I was hoping to get some recommendations for fabric and yarn shops in the city.  In particular, if you know of anywhere that sells Westfallenstoffe fabric, please let me know!

Wielen danke!

Hi Esmeralda,

you might already seen and read it but in case you don't try this:

'Karstadt' is a department store that normally has a fabric section. Sorry, but since I'm not from Munich I can't be of much help.

Anyway, you have to eat Weiwrste when you get there. Soooo yummy!

Have a nice trip!

Hi esmeralda,

The best place I would recommend you for both (yarn and fabric) is 'Hertie', the one in downtown Munich. It is not a special material shop, it is a huge departament store but they have a big craft material area, better than any other 'craft shop' here in Munich.
They have a big selection of yarn and especially lots and lots of different fabric and the prices are actually good. And at the end of the fabric section they have a rack full of different Westfallen fabrics. Next to the fabric section they have another section where you can find lots of trims and many typical german buttons like the ones they use for the folk costumes.

It is very easy to get to Hertie. Just take the train that goes to the main train Station (Hauptbahnhof)  -any S-Bahn would take you there- and when you get there, exit the train and go to the shopping area that is right there, you will find Hertie easy because it is very big (and very nice, I love to shop there Smiley)

I agree that you should check out Hertie and I found a quilters store next to the Virtualien? Markt

I'm new to Munich so I'm still looking for good crafting stores

I'll be spending a few days in Munich, so thought I'd "up" the thread to see if anyone has new adresses!
and here's a link https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=115200.0 to another topic on shops in Munich

I'd rather support local business then big department stores, so any suggestions of local boutiques are welcome!
And in France, average fruit/vegetables market usually have a fabric stand. Is it so in Munich?
Would someone have adresses of second hand shops, and flea markets?

Thank you!

i bought a burda magazine and they had a special section on munich, where to go and where to shop (craftwise)

im gonna go find it...

(15 minutes later....)

uhm you said you were looking for yarn?

handspun, handdyed, silk bats and whatnot (sorry, not my craft area, dont know what youd be looking for) :
in the hirschbergstr. 4

another address is:
in the burgstr. 7

they have yarn and notions

in the hackenstr. 4 and 7

these guys have pretty but expensive fabric (if burda says expensive, im sure its gotta be a scam, because even normal fabric is horridly expensive in this country.. like the cheapest quilters cotton is 25 dollars, just to give you an idea).

if you need felt in the rathaus of the dienerstr.
the article also lists phonenumbers, if you want them just pm me.

hope that helped!
ps. (str. means straße, and we actually do capitalize street names in germany, im just too lazy to type correctly, hehe)
