My brother came into a yarn store with me a couple of weeks ago, and decided after bothering me for years to make him a scarf (which I've never quite got around to doing) he'd just knit one his damn self.
He taught himself how to knit out of a book a few years ago but never actually made anything. So I taught him to cast on and pearl, and went home. Yesterday I helped him cast off over the phone and he is now the proud knitter of a very larey scarf!!  Smiley

I'm pretty proud of him too- now he's got to pick his next project- suggestions?

Ooooh, I know!  Socks.  His toes look cold.  Grin  Tell him congrats on the scarf.  I took way too long learning how to knit in the round.  I should have moved on to hats and socks much earlier.  Guys like practical- either should work.

Handsome, and he can knit! *Swoon*

As you sew, so shall you rip. Don't fear the ripper.

Hats. That was my first project - easy, yet you're still learning - joining without twists, working in the round, and decreasing for the top!

A man who knits?  Is he single?   Wink

(oh dear, I would have to share my stash, wouldn't i?)

We could learn a lot from crayons. Some are sharp, some are pretty and some are dull. Some have weird names, and all are different colors, but they all have to live in the same box.

i would say hats as well.

why is he leaning on a blood pressure reader? is he a doctor? if so, a knitter AND a doctor...sounds like an ideal man Wink

Hate to break all your hearts, but the blood pressure monitor's from his partner's hospital room: he cast off the scarf while waiting for his new twin baby boys to be born. (He's loving the attention tho, don't stop  Roll Eyes)

I think hats too, but we'll need a pretty easy one as he's long distance and harder to instruct on the arts of knitting in the round.  Maybe I'll start him on the Stitch and Bitch umbilical hat. I could use the help with baby beanies, twins! Double everything! I'm knitting preemie socks like a maniac!!  Tongue
I think socks are a bit much yet apalone, he finds my dpns rather impressive in a scary way

Well contrats to him on all of his new accomplishments!

I say hat too! That was my first project and I learned on DPN's. It was great to learn so many new things on one project!

Let's put the FUN back in dysfunctional!!

I think once the babies come, he won't have the time or energy for knitting.
