I made these boots in October of '05 when I was getting ready to volunteer in Mississippi and Louisiana after the hurricanes. I needed to do something with my nervous energy. Had to have steel toed boots and a bit more vertical achievement, if you get my drift. I wondered how my small group of people could possibly make a dent in the misery down there. Surely it would take miracles or magic or something.

As with so many things, you just have to put one foot in front of the other and do your best, I learned.

The idea of fairies came to me as I pondered magic and Selena was kind enough to give me permission to use these on my boots, sort of like the WWI and WWII fighters who painted images on their planes.

The recipe:
Spangly, beady ribbon, glued on with some nasty foul smelling perma glue.
Ribbons, fray stopped with embroidery thread stitches.
Fairies and word plates made of shrink plastic colored with sharpie, colored pencil and chalk, sealed with krylon, tied into lace holes and holes made in side of boots with an awl.

Thanks Ska Hippie! These days I just wear them with the spangly bead trim and leave the words, fairies and rainbow ribbons at home.

Thank you, I'm glad you like them. I like to wear them on my husband's motorcycle with my jeans rolled up just enough to show the spangly trim.

Love the story that goes behind these awesome docs!  That's such a great revamp...I simply love them.  I have hot pink lace laces in my Docs Cheesy
