"slst to join" means joining the last stitch in the round to the first stitch in the round.  Since the chain 3 counts as the first dc, you slst into the third chain to make a complete round.  Does that make sense at all?  I can take a picture of what I mean if it would help.

At the end of the dcs, your protocupcake looks like this, right?

Put your hook in the 3rd chain:

Yarn over and pull it through both loops on the hook to make a completed round:

I hope this helps.  Good luck!

Yeah those pictures definately helped...it made me realize that I did the entire circle wrong...

Well I fiddled around with it till I got it right finally...now everything makes sense...

instead of dc into the ring I was dc in each ch until it went around in a snake coil circle and I was lost becasue my first dc was in the middle

well I made one finally...it looks a little weird, but it's my first so I expected it....

The size and shape reminds me of a hacky-sac...

I think I'm gonna start putting beans in them and giving them to people as cute hacky sacs...

It's great too because I get 1 lb. of beans free every month and we don't eat beans....

Thanks for posting this great idea....

Now that I got the hang of it I plan on making more (and as soon as I get black yarn making sushi) and at this exact moment I just made a "blueberry muffin" at "life-size" instead of mininature....All I had was dark tan and denim blue yarn so I made a solid brown cupcake design and before I stitched it together I added blue knots (knots on instead) all throughout it...

It took my husband awhile to get what it was, but he did eventually (with hints)!  He kept saying pottery because I hadn't done the top yet, so all I had was a bowl....

Blueberry Muffin anyone???

Hee-hee.  I love it.

This is yet another pattern for a cupcake pincushion from the Good Housekeeping website.  My mom saved the page specially to show me.  Probably also to hint at me making one for her, too.  This one uses seed beads scattered on top to look like "sprinkles".

Sometimes it's knit and sometimes it's crochet.

Wow! I'm glad to see this one year old thread revived again because I missed it the first time around. Just wanted to say that the tiny cupcake and sushi ornaments are so cute. Great idea! I'm going to see if I can whip some up to fancy up my gift wrapped presents.
