I've recently become obsessed with octopi...i knit this little pink octopus so i could carry him around classes and have something to put on my desk (i love confusing my teachers)...he is very, very simple to knit, and doesn't take too long...the pattern is included at the end of the post- please post pictures if you make your own!!  i'd love to see them  Grin Grin

you will need:
one skein of sport weight yarn (i used microspun in a coral color)
a bit of thread for the mouth
two 9 mm plastic eyes
size 6 double pointed needles
fiberfill stuffing
yarn needle

CO 6 sts
Rnd 1-  kfb around (12 sts)
Rnd 2-  knit 1 round
Rnd 3-  kfb around (24 sts)
Rnd 4-  knit 1 round
Rnd 5-  *k1, kfb 1  *repeat around (36 sts)
Rnd 6-  knit 1 round
Rnd 7 and 8-  repeat  previous two rounds (54 sts)

Knit until the piece is about 3-4 inches long (or however long you want your octopus to be  Wink)

At this point, you should embroider the face and stuff your octopus up to your needles

Begin decrease:
Rnd 1-  *k 7, k 2tog *repeat around (48 sts)
Rnd 2-  knit 1 round
Rnd 3-  *k 6, k 2 tog *repeat around (42 sts)
Rnd 4-  knit 1 round
Rnd 5-  *k 5, k 2tog *repeat around (36 sts)
Rnd 6-  knit 1 round
Rnd 7-  *k 4, k 2tog *repeat around (36 sts)
Rnd 8-  knit 1 round
Rnd 9-  *k 3, k 2tog *repeat around (24 sts)
Rnd 10-  knit 1 round
Rnd 11-  *k 2, k 2tog *repeat around (18 sts)
Rnd 12-  knit 1 round
Rnd 13-  *k 1, k 2tog *repeat around (12 sts)
Rnd 14-  *k 2 tog *repeat around (6 sts)
Cut a longish tail, and pull it through the remaining stiches.  Weave in the tail.

LEGS (make Cool
CO 4 sts
Knit in i-cord until it is 3 1/2 inches long (or however long you want the legs to be)

The easiest way to line up the legs is to sew them in pairs.  Turn over your octopus and pick a starting point.  Sew on the leg, then sew another leg directly across from it.  These legs are like 12 and 6 o'clock.  Now attach legs at 3 and 9 o'clock.  Keep going until all 8 legs are sewn on.

Tada!!  You have an octopus friend!!

Gah!  That is so cute!  I think my daughter needs one of these.  Needs one, mind you.  I'd never make her something she didn't need.   Wink
