OK, so it's not that great, and I cheated and machine-sewed the whole thing, but I did it with absolutely no help from anyone and with absolutely no idea what I was doing!

It's actually a playmat for a new baby - I used a double-layer of polyester batting to make it nice and soft and squishy for bub to roll around on.

I love to craft using recycled and reclaimed fabrics, and this is no exception. The panels are all from Hawaiian shirts I bought at the Salvo's for a few dollars each. The border is bits of cut up denim from jeans that no longer fit me...

...and the back:

...is a doona cover I also picked up at the Salvo's - it's the interior of a car. I plan on giving it to a pregnant friend who doesn't know the sex of their baby, so it had to be kind of gender non-specific. I'm convinced they're having a girl, but for some reason I picked very boyish fabric! Hmmm.....

There are quite a few flaws, but it needs to have flaws to make it unique!

What do you all think??

I think it looks great! Very cozy for a baby to lay on!

employed = hardly any time to sew :-(

that's really cute!  I like the way you have the same-fabric squares along diagonals -- it's dynamic without being too crazy

I love it. That's very creative and looks like the baby will have lots of fun. All those bright colors! Great job! (and using the machine is NOT cheating, in my book Smiley so don't worry about it)
