Hope I am posting in the right spot...

My brother's bday is coming up and he says he has a Marathon Curse. Whenever he runs one, storms move into the region, thieves raid his hotel room, or his legs seize up. I thought it would be fun to make him a shrine to bring him good luck (as he has a marathon coming up in the spring). He's not crafty but has a dry, ironic sense of humour so I think he would get a kick out of it.

However, I have never made a shrine before.... so I would really welcome any creative ideas/suggestions as to what to do.  I will have to mail it, so something smaller/lighter is good. I do have quite a few Altoid-y tins kicking around, so I could always do something with one of those.

Anyway... if anyone has any ideas, I'd love to hear them. Thanks so much!  Smiley

What a great idea.  How about an Altoid tin, decoupaged with a map and his route lined out?  Inside - a bunch of little things.  Like a tiny umbrella to protect him from inclement weather, a tiny toy pistol for his thieves, or a lock or whistle or something like that, a teeny hot water bottle or some stick on heating pads for his muscle cramps, a little water bottle, some tiny running shoes, a sweat band for his head, stuff like that?  You could have fun making some of the things out of Sculpey.  Oh, and a little watch so he can "time" himself.

Great suggestions!

If you'd like some info and examples of using polymer clay with Altoid Tins, check out this page:
(... click on Altoid tins, under Metal...)

And if you want info and lessons on making lots of "little things" with polymer clay, look in the alphabetical navigation bar on the pages above for some of these other pages at the site too:

Sculpting-Bodies,Tools (esp. for body parts)
Houses-Furniture, Landscaping, etc.
Kids (esp. for bugs, small figures, dioramas and scenes, and just all kinds of things)
