So I wanted to make a sweater for my niece Emma, who is going to be 6 soon.  I thought that this lace pattern would be perfect for the edging, because it is fancy, but not too fancy.

This is my very first sweater ever.  I made up the pattern in my head and I used my 7 year old son as a template for the measurements.  I hope you like it!

And here's a closeup of the lace bits...

It is made with lion suede yarn so it is nice and fuzzy like a suede jacket that has that shearling trim.

This is great!  The lace edging gives it a sort of vintage swing-coat feel.

thanks you guys!  I was kind of going for a little 60s french girl look like Madeline, almost, with the rounded wide collar.  I'm going to put some of those toggle buttons that have the little leather triangles attached to the sweater on each side and then the toggle hanging on one side and the loop hanging on the other (do you know what I mean?  it's like a LL Bean version on a frog closure...) but I can't find one I like yet, so I figured I'd just post it as is for now.

I also made the sleeves a 3/4 length, so she wouldn't have to fuss with it too much.  It sort of makes it look more 60s that way too.

This is exactly what I thought when I saw this!  Your neice will love it, I'm sure.  She's a lucky little girl.  Great job of incorporating the required stitch pattern.  It looks wonderful as a trim.

Anyone who can make ...with lace...out of suede...with no pattern...their first sweater...is my knitting guru.  I am soooooooo impressed!  Smiley

That is lovely! It totally isn't something I would have come up with, but I love your use of the lace stitch as trim. I'm sure your niece will love it!
