Any idea of a good project for my 15 year old daughter to start out with.  I am thinking that she would enjoy a felted purse.  I appreciate the advice.  I am not a knitter, but my mom is.  She's taken a long hiatus from it though and is not up on new ideas.

does she know how to sew?  i had a lot of fun when my mom taught me how to sew.  she took me to the store and had me pick out a pattern i liked and fabric.  although i think after that, i didn't sew for like 5 years.  heh.

Maybe making a scarf with some eyelash yarn.

Erm or some wristbands... when I first got back into knitting again I decided to knit wristbands with my own patterns on. So much fun and so quick and easy to make.

Funny you should ask about her sewing ability.  She has been sewing for a few years, takes lessons after school, and will soon be sewing circles around me!  As a matter of fact, she specializes in costumes and is interested in costume design.   But, knitting would be a new venture.

Oh, and we live in Houston, so cold-weather knitting projects are out.

I'm a teen, and the first thing I knitted was a simple pouch. A scarf is also a good idea for a first project.

I agree that a felted purse would be a fun thing to make. She can use it as much as she wants and it will be a unique item that none of her friends have. And since you knit it up all floppy it is faster to do than most other projects.

Also when I learned about felting I finally realized and understood why so many clothes have special washing intructions.

There's a cute felted purse pattern here and it uses only 1 skein of cascade 220 - so that's less than $10.  It's the Sophie purse - over on the knitalongs section there's a topic devoted to this purse, so you can see what some people have done to make it a little different, too!

Hmm.. didn't realize this was in the knitting category. Tongue I'm in the process of making a huge scarf with both eyelash and chenille yarn, with them together "pretending" it's one strand if you know what I mean. It's coming out great, and super fluffy!

Thanks!  I love the sophie purse.  We'll have to wait for a break from school tho.  It is not unusual for her to get 2-3 hours sleep since she takes 5 honors classes.  Maybe we can start it when my Mom visits and she can help interpret the instructions!
