More conventional but still very pretty songs:
All I Want is You - Barry Louis Polisar
Anyone Else But You - The Mouldy Peaches (the version Micheal Cera and Ellen Page did in Juno is even better)
Piazza, New York Catcher - Belle and Sebastian
Dearest - Buddy Holly
Whole Wide World - Wreckless Eric
All My Loving - The Beatles
Dammit Janet - either the original Rocky Horror track or the cover by Love Equals Death
Falling is Like This - Ani Difranco
Fell in Love with a Girl- White Stripes
Heavy Metal Drummer - Wilco
I Summon You - Spoon
Love is a Place - Metric
Poprocks and Coke - Greenday
Hold Tight - Dave, Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mitch, and Tich

For those of you who are francophones or francophiles:
Pour un Instant - Harmonium
Le Monde a Bien Chang - 1755
Morphe - Moxy Frvous
Le Toi de Moi - Carla Bruni
Champs Elyses - Joe Dassin or NOFX, depending on if you like corny or ska
La Vie en Rose  -Edith Piaf
La Tte en Gigue - Jim Corcoran

For those who are as silly as my boyfriend and I:
Medical Love Song - Monty Python
Finding out True Love is Blind - Louis XIV
Paper Doll - Louis XIV
I wanna be your Boyfriend - The Ramones
If I Had a Million Dollars - The Barenaked Ladies
Love -> Building on Fire - The Talking Heads

Etta James - At Last              Such an amazing song! I second the suggestion.

Also, I'm surprised no one mentioned these:

Goo Goo Dolls - Iris
and my personal sappy favorite
Brian Adams - Have You Ever Really Loved a Woman

A cutesy song from Greenday - Church on Sunday

I know these are super old, but they are great songs.

Autumn indicates the death of beauty as we know
Keep on fighting one died from burning at his throat
Autumn swiftly stole the breath of body, mind and soul

My husband and I were married two years ago, and his dad is a Beatles nut, so our wedding song is "When I'm 64" by the beatles... I love it, not too mushy and just plain cute.  Not to mention fun to dance to  Grin

Don't say you don't have enough time. You have exactly the same number of hours per day that were given to Helen Keller, Pasteur, Michaelangelo, Mother Teresa, Leonardo da Vinci, Thomas Jefferson, and Albert Einstein.

"Isn't It Romantic?", Ella Fitzgerald
Old jazz from the '30's or so, but it's a pretty song.  Perfect for slow dancing in the kitchen while making dinner together.
"Question", Old 97's
Amazing song--very short, but there's so much sweetness packed in there!
"Hey Jude", The Beatles
I love this one.  It's nice to hear someone encouraging a guy to open his heart.
"What A Day For A Daydream", Lovin' Spoonful
This is a fun song--who doesn't daydream about their sweetie?
"Last Kiss", Pearl Jam
Sad, but romantic and touching.  I get shivers when I hear this one.
"If We Hold On Together", Diana Ross
This is the end theme from The Land Before Time--I love it!
"I'm The One", Mr. Big
"Grow Old With You", Adam Sandler
From The Wedding Singer--AWWW!
"Can't Help Falling In Love With You", Elvis Presley
I love it.  So, so, so much.
"Minstrel's Prayer", Cartel
This is how musicians and poets feel when they fall in love.
"At My Most Beautiful", REM
Simple things are the best, like saving voice mails just to hear someone's voice.
"Waiting On An Angel", Ben Harper
Romance on a stick.
"Even though we ain't got money, I'm so in love with you honey..."
I don't know the title or singer, but I love this song.
"You're An Ocean", Fastball
"I Will Keep Calling You", Blue October
Sometimes, a phone call is more romantic than a five-course candlelit dinner.
"I Believe In A Thing Called Love", The Darkness
Love makes a man (or woman) do strange things, like reach notes not previously considered possible.
"Foolish Games", Jewel
Yeah, it's about heartbreak, but I love it.  I want to sing it for my BF, and I don't sing for people.
"Do You Wanna Come Walk With Me?", Isobel Campbell
I love falling in love, especially with the same person that I've been loving.
"I'll Be There For You", The Rembrandts
Yeah, it's the Friends song.  I don't care, it's sweet.
"May It Be", Enya
Very slow, pretty song, perfect for sending soothing kisses and peace to the receiver.
"Something Pretty", Patrick Park
One man.  One guitar.  Three minutes of loveliness.
"Underneath Your Clothes", Shakira
I can't resist.  Sweet and a leetle seductive without screaming "GIT YER PANTS OFF YEEEEAH!"

Well, this is all I have for now.  'll be putting most of these onto a CD for my candypants.  If you need some more, I'll post them when I recharge my mp3 player.

Oh, it's just kittens.

I want to leave this world the way I came into it:  naked, screaming, and covered in someone else's blood.

the song "if you rescue me (chanson des chats)" from the science of sleep is so sweet. it's a cover of velvet underground's after hours which is sweet, too but this one is adooorable.
