I agree that it's annoying that he didn't line up the plaid pattern on the front, but most likely he's done that on purpose.

Remember that he wouldn't have made this out of a pattern, he would have most likely cut up pieces of fabric and pinned them to a mannequin to get the look that he wanted.

Looks like hems are all various lengths with varying quantities of fabric flared out at the base and gathered into the lining.

It's a good challenge to try and make.
