There's a lot of experience amongst the members of this forum and I'm hoping someone can help a relatively newcomer to sewing.   Zippers are a challenge!  I've been trying different methods for installing zippers in totes.  I've tried the Lazy Girl Patterns and used the Cindy Taylor Oates book on zippered totes, and the results have been pretty good.  But the look I want to a straight zipper installation to a lined tote.  Does anyone have a step by step instruction with a diagram?  Thanks!

How is what you have in mind different from the techniques you've seen? I was thinking about how to do that myself, and was looking at the Lazy Girl pattern "Summer Tote" at a starting point. (I need to make a new purse for myself, and I'm so not into it that I'm looking for ways around it. I want it to be fairly square but with a zippered opening *and* a flap.)

Actually, that may very well! Thanks! I'm sure I can insert a flap before assembling the inner and outer, if it's not all too thick. I'm going to have to think about this (and I really don't want to -- I'm such not a purse girl, but I carry too many gadgets).

That one is for a zippered pocket inside a bag, which IS very useful. I'm not sure what Kathybk may have meant, but I was definitely looking for a zipper closure at the top of a lined bag. I've found several methods around craftster since asking, though. I haven't attempted any of them yet, because I'm still procrastinating.
