Its BARELY midnight but here is our first Fiber Friday of the year, hooray!

I might have more later as they dry since I finished a bunch today too.  This is what I have so far...

falkland 2 ply with sparklies here and there

And Fiber Explosion...a grab bag of mill ends from the Sheep Shed...this is during the process of separating it.

All of you wonderful people have totally inspired me to try this spinning thing, and here's my second attempt ever! It's wool.. but past that I don't know specifics, I bought it on eBay...

I used a drop spindle and I attempted plying.. and I only got about 7 yds cause I just wanted to practice. Cheesy

And here's what it looked like on the spindle: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v482/Jestique/crafts/DSC03656.jpg

Oh, finally a fiber friday I can post to! For the last two weeks I've been unable to find my camera cord, so I couldn't post. So, WARNING:: This post is a bit long, as I'm on school break so I have lots of time to spin.

Last week, I spun this. The white is Natural Blending Nylon and the blue is BFL.

Here's a closeup of the BFL.

Currently, I'm spinning this.

It's actually very variegated; I switch colors quite a bit.

I've also been messing with my homemade hackle, and made these.

And, last but not least, I've dyed some rovings.

I love the picture of your fiber, your dog, and your cat. Whenever I'm in the process of doing anything craft related I have several furry helpers.

Hi people - Happy New Year!! Everyone's yarns look gorgeous! And misshawklet's pets made me laugh a little too - I like how your dog is posing but your cat doesn't seem bothered by any goings on. Smiley Very, very much like my pets.

I'm so glad to be able to post today - I'd missed out a few weeks because of Christmas present projects. And it's a big week for me because I got an Ashford Traditional for Christmas (it took all my strength not to put that in all capitals) and I have my first wheel skeins to show off!

First is a spindle spun yarn, which I hadn't gotten around to taking a picture of until today. It's superwash merino from Crown Mountain Farms, only a small skein because it wasn't coming out as bulky as I wanted.

And then I got my wheel and all hell broke loose. My first tries (all merino) were all crazy overspun, so I used them to try plying:

And since I'm loving big squishy lumpy singles right now, I decided I'd try that out.

(Just to be clear, I was actually trying to get them thicker and more uneven each time. Smiley I had a hard time with that on my spindle, so I thought I'd start there with the wheel.)Since those were coming out quite nice, I decided to return to the superwash. I bought it specifically for a scarf for a friend of mine and I wanted it super crazy bulky.

(I just realized that these look like the same bulkiness as the spindle spun skein, but it really is much bulkier.) There were three skeins, but I started crocheting the scarf before I could take pictures. It's so soft and bouncy, I can't wait to use some for myself. Sorry this post was so very long, I'm just very proud of my wheel progress and I love him so much! (Sometimes I just give him a little pat when I walk by, he's such a good boy.) But now I'm preparing myself to learn to spin thinner on him, so there's a good chance my enthusiasm will be a little less intense next week. Smiley

Looks great so far everyone! Woo hoo for winter break! I finally got around to some spinning after the Christmas chaos was over... On my first-ever wheel that my boyfriend got me!!! (He's a keeper  Smiley) I've only been at this for a couple months, so I'm not exactly sure that I'm even using the wheel correctly, but it's fun and I'm definitely getting better. Anyways, these first two (all wool) were my last attempts on my drop spindle, and the last one (corredaile and nylon) is my third attempt from my wheel. Next up is learning how to dye...
