Due to a long-standing feud with my dad, my bro not only doesn't have any family pictures, but he doesn't have his childhood stocking.  Cry

So, for Christmas, I made him this stocking from the 2005 Knitting Pattern A Day Calendar. (Except I did it in red instead of fisherman, because I like the red better for Christmas.)

Detail of the cabling, which is on both sides:

And then, I dug through all my old photos and got about 50 family pix... us as kids, our parents, grandparents, great-grandparents, cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews... and I made copies of them to put in this frame/album. The plaque on the front says "Family."

(The picture on the front is my 3 bros and me, circa 1968. He is the little one.)  Shocked

When I was done, I added a little treat... just like Santa used to leave.

This goes into the express mail tomorrow, so hopefully he will get it by Christmas.

That is so awesome.

My estranged stepbrother (estranged for about 14 years or more) came home this winter and my sister crocheted a new stocking for him and one for each of his kids and wife. I got to help pick out the yarns since I don't crochet but knit and everyone's stocking is crochet @ our house since I am the black sheep. Wink

What a wonderful way to be close to family.

That is the sweetest present you can get for someone, pretty much. I'm on the verge of tears, reading about it. He'll love it.

Well done on the knitting front, too. I love the cables, and I agree, a Christmas stocking has to be red.

I am not pregnant (but I am nursing!) and I did shed a tear.  Possibly because we have gone through a lot of family things lately as my FIL had an untimely death a few weeks back.  I can't imagine how hard it would be at the holidays to not have any reminders of what Christmas was to you as a child.  My favorite things are the pictures of my husband and his sister with Santa and me and my brother with Santa.

What a THOUGHTFUL gift.  It won't matter when he gets it -- there's never a bad time for something so special.

Nice stocking, too!  I only recently learned to knit, and so I haven't quite had the chance to knit stockings, but soon now!  Hopefully for next year!

That is such a thoughtful, loving & awesome thing to do for your brother for Christmas. I'm sure it'll bring a tear to his eyes when he opens it. The stocking is gorgeous!

I'm not pregnant, nursing or having PMS. I am a sap, however, and that makes me cry. Good job! Your brother will love you for it.
