I made this this afternoon crafting and gossiping with a friend of mine.  Really needed a pin cushion for my pins and couldn't deal with poking pins in anything that didn't already have them (was convinced I was going to get some bad witch doctor karma or something!)... so found something that already had pins and made that.

top with my sad attempt at a stringy flower and some pins

My friend suggested i weigh the pot down so it wouldn't topple over, so I put some rocks in it.

thanks for looking!

Gak! I love it, it's too damn cute! I love pin cushions, they're kind of addictive, if you ask me. Did you follow a pattern or make it up?

Very cute!

...this reminds of some cactus related items I was going to make...

Your embroidery is very neat!

That's terrific! The cactus is the world's perfect pin cushion form, I think.

I love your cactus, I too can't bring myself to stick pins in cute little critters and especially not in eyeball pincushions. I have a flower pot that looks like a lady and the hat is the top of the pot so I used an old wool suit rolled up and covered with blue fabric as the crown of the hat and I put pins in it.

Ta!  Glad to hear I'm not the only one who finds it difficult to stick pins in critters... the hat idea sounds really cool too!

I just made up a pattern to fit the amount of green felt I had.  5 dome shaped green pieces sewn to make the cactus and one circle for the bottom.  I had to scrunch up the bottoms to sew on the circle to make it look more like a boufy cactus and less like a green tent!

I learnt how to do the blanket stitch on this for the first time, so quite glad it turned out neat... thanks paperdaises... looking forward to yours!!
