I was at the thrift store today and found several men's shirts that I thought would be great for this project, but I ran into two problems:

1). Did your men's shirt have a pocket?  All the ones I found had a big pocket on the front that I thought would be in the way of the modified side stitching.

2).  Did you hem the bottom to be shorter?  All the men's shirts I found were tremendously long.  I suppose the bottom could be hemmed to any length after the whole thing is done....

Thanks for your help!

Okie dokie!

Thanks everyone for all your lovely responses!

Ana_Ng, I hope I can help! Firstly, yes, my shirt does have a pocket. I had planned on removing it but it didn't get in the way so I left it on. It's hard to see in the photo but it's there. And my shirt's hem was funny, it was the right length but uneven when I lay it out flat so when I finished everything else I evened it up.

I'm not sure if that would have helped, I hope I helped in some way!

I'd love to see some people's results! Please post photos! (^_^) I'd like to see if me making a cool top was just a fluke. ...or just seeing if my tutorial making skills work a little bit! Grin

alrighty. this weekend i had a shot using your fab tutorial on this big old mens shirt i had. im not sure i like it now, but i guess i only wore it originally as a nightshirt so its not that much of a loss. it looks better on but pictures turn out rubbish.

heehee, i like to pretend im a helicopter pilot when i wear it.

dont know if its finished yet. somebody please help me decide whether to put sleeves on it or not. on the one hand, i think it makes my shoulders look kinda manly sleeveless. plus, the sleeves on paperdaisies' shirt are super cute. on the other hand, because its got a bit of detail on the shoulders, would it look too much if it had sleeves also? see below.

any opinions on this sleeve dilemna?

you see, if something's not working properly, the best thing to do is to tear it apart to make it better

spongekate, that shirt looks cute, but I do feel that sleeves would make it look more girly cute Smiley
