Isle Knit has a pretty good selection, especially considering the size.  You can get fancy-schmancy yarns (Anny Blatt) or relatively inexpensive basic yarns (Ella Mae, Plymouth Encore) - just tell Sue what you are looking for.  Lots of patterns and notions, too.

I've heard great things about the shop from their regulars, but I've never been there.  Sock yarns, crochet lei yarns, and helpful, cheerful atmosphere.

i highly recommend UI MAU A MAU!  i wanted to learn to make crochet lei, so i wandered in and they took me right under their wings and showed me everything - i mentioned that i was going to teach myself how to crochet so i could make pikake buds, and they taught me how to crochet right there in the store!  there's a big table in the store and when i went, there were a bunch of women making all kinds of lei, chatting, sharing ideas - it was awesome!

---

If you're ever in need of stretchy lace, Kaimuki Dry Goods is your place! They also have a gorgeous selection of Asian and novelty fabrics. They're small, but I like their selection.
I also like to go to June Fabrics because it has a wide variety of fabrics (but I haven't been to Fabric Mart yet, so I can't compare). I have yet to visit The Calico Cat, but they've gotten some rave reviews, so I am eager to check them out.

I hope this helps!
