I've done a quick search and I can't see this mentioned anywhere, but does anyone know where to find fabric a little like this?

Ideally I'd like it to be cheap, under about 5/m and gold/yellowy circles about 6 inches in diameter.

If that sounds a little specific, it's because it's for a specific project in my head and it MUST be this fabric and NO OTHER WILL DO.  Roll Eyes

If not, how hard would it be to paint the circles onto the cotton?

I think if you're shooting for 6" diameter circles, the best thing would be to paint them on.  Mix fabric medium with acrylic paint and make a stencil that's the width of your fabric by about two feet, and you'll be done in no time!

*sigh* Am I never to fulfil my artistic vision?!  Cheesy

Thanks for your help; I'd only come up with the idea of drawing round bowls - your idea sounds much easier! Thanks again!
