I think the "best" yarn is up to you.  I usually use Caron Simply Soft since that is what is available to me (it's my favorite yarn right now!) and I like the colors and it makes really soft amigurumi's....but I know others use different yarns too.

Personally, I like Red Heart because it's a little thicker than simply soft and a little more...hearty?  I guess that's the word I'm looking for.  I've found that it holds it's shape well when you stuff it.

I use both of those yarns when I make them and they are both great but it's also up to you what yarn you may want to use. I've even combined the two types Caron SS and Red Heart. RH for the body and Caron SS for the clothes and it was awesome together. See here is what I made with RH for the body and Caron SS for the clothes:

It's a fairy in which her wings are RH and so is her hair. It's from a lady named Kristie her name is Blushing Becca.

There will always be people who say mean words  because you are different, and sometimes their minds cannot be changed. There are many more people who do not judge others based on how they look or where they are from. THOSE are the people whose WORDS truly matter.

I like the simply soft as well, but I wish there were more colors to choose from.  I need to use a smaller hook when I use that yarn too-- usually a D.

I've also used cotton yarn like Lily Sugar'n Cream.  It works really well, also.  And that yarn is so easy to crochet with, IMHO.  Plus comes in lots of fun colors.

I don't know if it is new or not, but today I discovered that red heart has a soft yarn collection that is just as soft as simply soft but a little thicker.  I bought about 10 skeins today.  The colors are really nice, too!

I, personally, prefer cotton for the body because its strong and quite mouldable. However, the choice is yours
