i've become pretty obsessed with katamari.  i decided it'd be the perfect halloween costume for me.  i tried searching on here for ideas of how to go about it.  i found this cute costume:

all of my images are clickable thumbnails, fyi.

i decided to go about it a little differently, and i gathered up:

2 bucket-like containers (free)
1 thin stick of wood (free)
2 sponges ($1)
2 meters of bright green material ($2)
a few pieces of felt ($1)
an inch of mesh (10 cents)
1/4 inch of green for the stripes (50 cents)
the boxes from my ddr game (thin cardboard) (free)
a pompom i had kicking around (free)
duct tape (colored, 3 rolls) ($3)
lots of toys, etc that were old (free)
old newspapers (free)
old bright purple pants (free)

i taped the stick inside of the buckets.  i covered the open ends of the buckets with cardboard and made an apparatis with the sponges so that they'd stay close to my head.  this photo might explain better:

i covered the whole thing with the bright green material.  i made sort of a "slip cover" for it, all of it hand sewn.  it fit perfectly!  i made the felt face and hand sewed it on.  the eyes are mesh so i can see through, and i cut some of the green material so it'd be easier to breath through the felt.  i poked 2 holes in the top to set in my antenna (which is cardboard covered in felt, with a pompom attached)  it might be a little too big, but i think it's cute.  the green stripes were just sewn into a tube, turned inside out & attached at the bottom.

i made a VERY simple shirt and pair of mitts.  i wanted the shirt to look sort of flared out, like a dress.   these were sewn with a machine.  the pants that you're going to see, i owned for some reason (i know, they're hideous!)

for the ball i gathered a bunch of newspaper, taped it together.  added more, taped on top, etc.. until i had a large ball.  i made the knobs of the katamari by bunching up paper.  i covered the ball in black duct tape and the knobs in bright blue.  i taped on a bunch of weird stuff.  i love it so much!  haha.  before (rolling up my boyfriend) and after decoration!!

sooo here is the whole thing in action!
