i agree.  sometimes it is nice to just craft for the sake of making someone happy.  not for getting a handmade item in return.

what exactly were the big problems with the unconditional swaps?

I would like to know too!

I understand the problem, but it is very saddening to me that the only swaps with the real meaning of making something just to see someones face light up, with no expecations of a gift back.. have been shut down. Very dissapointing, and seems to me craftster just lost a little bit of it's shine.. *sigh*

again, not complaining.. just sad.

I really liked that part, where it wasn't quite so...commercial, ie, I do this, I get that. It was craft from the heart.

We've gotten a ton of complaints about the unconditionals, and also a lot of problems have come out b/c of these. You can always do personal swaps!

it really came down to many problems concerning the unconditional swaps as far as organizing and moderating were concerned.

also, many folks have signed up for those in order to receive awesome crafted items without ever returning the favor.

if it comes to it and you want to just make something for someone "just because" you can check wists and pick something to make for that person randomly and ask them for their address...more like a personal unconditional swap if you really want to craft for someone for crafting sake!  (feel free to check out my wists!  Wink )

Just my 2 cents - I angel'd in 4 different swaps before I ever finished my first swap - and yes, there's a good feeling about making something for someone else.  Then I received my first package in a DIY Kit swap, and it's pretty cool getting something, too.

For anyone who really wants to do the unconditional thing, why not go to the craft swap board calling for angels, and put it on notify (this nifty feature that lets you know when a new post has been made) - then, you can not only craft unconditionally, but you can also help out when someone been flaked on....

and if you want to talk about having a good feeling when you send out that package, angelling will do it for you!

ok, that was 3 cents worth

so...no more birthday swaps?

what if you agree to make things for other birthdays that month?  and then non-birthday gift givers can do so on an personal swap like basis?

I am also sad. But I'm sure there is ample reason for getting rid of them. But still... I only got to be in one, and it was a blast. Perfect for a busy college student like me.

I feel like such a moocher now- I joined my first (and I guess only) unconditional swap for October Birthdays just a week or so ago. Now when I go to reciprocate the favor in November I'll feel like a jerk since something will get back to me.  Undecided
