So I get a phone call at 7am (grr...><) from my mother saying she has a surprise for me. Yay! Surprise!

It turns out to be this...floor length, interlock knit absolutely shapeless dress that she calls "sophisticated." (She claims I need more sophistication in my wardrobe because I'm dating "an older man". He's oly 24. *rolls eyes*) I swear to GOD this thing looked worse than the dress Jeffery made for Darlene on Project Runway.

It had these 3 or 4 inch slits at the bottom:

BUT. It did have one thing going for it. This cute little opening in the back. ^^

Well, says I. I need to make this thing wearable. After all, every woman needs a little black dress, right? (Don't get me wrong...I have 5 of the things...^^;; ) There's no such thing as too many little black dresses.

So I chopped the hem off by almost 24 inches, and took in the ruler-straight sides to hug what little curves I possess. And I wound up with this:

Here's a shot to attempt to show said curvy sides:

(it isn't lopsided, I swear. It's the damn webcam. ><)

I like it muuuuuch more now. ^__________^ I think with a cute belt and some heels...oh yea. *nodnods* Comments are love!

(Please excuse crappy pictures. I'm in the middle of moving to a new house and the only thing resembling a camera I have is my webcam.)

way to go! i suppose it could have been called sophisticated in its original state...in the way that, say, the wardrobes on the golden girls were sophisticated. Smiley

i like simple, short-ish black dresses--they're so versatile. the surprise hole in the back is cool; i think i'd keep accessories to a minimum to show off the simplicity of it. maybe just a pair of eyecatching shoes?

Oooh 24 hey, he MUST a wise old thing  Cheesy

The recon is gorgeous doll, I'm sure it looks smashing on you.

Smashing in the face of a pinata that resembles Summer Wheatley is a disgrace to you, me, and the entire Gem State.

Now, if you'd said it was as bad as Vincent's basket-on-the-head (or, really, anything else he did  Roll Eyes ) I'd be REALLY worried.  Wink Nice recon though-- it definitely looks like it'll be more flattering now.

from everyone's suggestions on the accessories, it is no wonder that everyone needs a nice black dress or two (or more!)--so versatile!!  Love the back and love that you made it fit your age--short and cute!

Heheh, if it had been me I would've just brought one of the splits up super high and given it some shape, but great recon.  I would've been pretty pissed if my mum did that to me.
