Hi all. Tomorrow my daughter is going to be in a sand castle building competition for about five hours. I can't imagine just sitting around on the beach all that time doing nothing, but I'm wondering how wise it would be to bring my knitting. Any one have experience knitting at the beach? What would be the best way to keep the sand out and does the salty air do anything funky to the yarn? Thanks for any tips!

Last year when we were at the beach I took some knitting with me and there was a pretty strong breeze. There was something about the salt in the air that made the yarn seem sort of sticky after a while. I was afraid that it would change my gauge so I stopped.

Knitting in humid, salty air gives me the creeps! It makes the yarn stick to my hands, which makes my gauge tighter...not my idea of fun. I usually just stick with a book or a magazine- no matter how much I would rather be knitting, I don't think the discomfort would be worth it.

I absolutely <3 Craftster!

...By the way,has anyone seen my dpns...?

Thanks for all your replies! As it turned out,  parent participation was 'encouraged' so I ended up hauling endless buckets of water and sand, and boy, am I paying for it now.
