MY UPDATE ON OCT. 25: just a note to anyone who may want to duplicate this idea - the comics cracked at the creases (the spots that bend when you walk) after wearing them around school for a day... I wouldnt necessarily suggest you do this anymore even though it looks great. But someone suggested clear spray paint? I'll give it a try...

hey guys, after seeing all those ballet flats modgepodged with starburst wrappers, newsprint, etc... I decided that I had to make a pair myself!  I had these old ballet flats that weren't presentable anymore, two comic books, and taaadaaa!!
Before, the virgin shoes:

After two hours of work:

This was really quite easy .. I cut out a combination of dialogue bubbles and pictures.  I first glued down the pictures, and proceeded to fill in the spaces with dialogue.  So as to avoid getting sticky fingers, I smoothed down the cutouts with a popsicle stick - what a lifesaver.
Enjoy Wink
p.s. thanks to my inspirations.. LaurenTaylor who has the same shoes, lol-->https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=107728.0
, and FluffySam -->https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=88444 (Starburst shoes)
p.s. hopefully the modgepodge  will sustain in THe Elements.. :S Anyone know?

Haha, your shoes lost their virginity.

Maybe the outdoor modpodge might work? I've never tried it, but my experience with normal modpodge is that it gets cloudy and sticky when exposed to water.

those are amazing.
i'm pretty sure that modge podge is water soulable. so it might not do so well in  the rain/snow. I would suggest sealing it with some sort of water proff sealer.

They say they climb mountains because they are there.  I wonder if it would astound them to know that the very same reason is why the rest of us go around them.

This is really cute!  Cheesy

I have those shoes too (Payless?) -- and it might be time to trick them out. What is the alternative to modgepodge?
