After a few years off from vegetable gardening due to my yard being a gopher haven, my wonderful hubby dug me two 4x12 "raised" beds. Kiss

He dug about 3 feet down, then we both laid chicken wire, built wood edges, and refilled to above the ground line with sifted soil and compost(lazy sifting I admit, Im still pullin rocks out Undecided )

I have gone with the "half square foot" method of gardening, other wise known as, I-cant-pass-up-a-plant-now-its-a-crazy-jungle style. Considering my seed buying habit, I doubt its going to get any "better" this fall. Although we do plan on putting in two smaller beds for some of our fall crops(kale, broccoli, carrots, chard, cauliflower, broccoli, brussel sprouts etc..)

I have had MAJOR garden problems, I am trying to roll with the punches and learn as I go.

There are early, just after planting photos, some middle stage ones at about 1 1/2 months of growing and more current ones. My apologies for the weird sizes, please check out my flickr page for more garden photos!(I swear Im like a old man, cause I can piddle around in the garden all day, and a parent, snapping tons of photos of my "babies" while they are growing, *sniff* the memories)

Beginning right side, desiccated by pincer bugs, two tomatoes, some kale and marigolds, the beets have not sprouted yet in this photo.

the right side a few weeks ago before we put the paths in.

New middle, tomatoe, bell pepper, lemon cucumber.

Middle a little ways in. Notice I crammed some onions in...

Middle pre paths,

Left start, tomatoe, lemon cucumber, spaghetti squash, eggplant(RIP)

month and a half...

YIPES! its getting outta control!

One of the beets,

Baby artichoke aka aphid hotel.

Amaranth! I have around 90! seedlings I need to put in the ground, still...*sigh*

So yummy, french citadel peas, Highly recommended.

My first golden raspberry. I got this one before the bugs took a bite.

Lettuce and peas, grow your own lettuce its so easy!

Baby sunflower.

Im experimenting with making my own seaweed fertilizer, PHEW WEE, not for those with sensitive noses.

Fresh seaweed (I got asked so many questions while collecting this!)

A little time equals alotta funk....

My favorite salvia.

Some bees in my lavenders and lambs ear.

Baby strawberry! If you look real close you can see where the pincer bugs(earwigs)have munched it though...*grrr*

Almost current shots, I pretty much cant walk between these beds now.

To lolomako, we love you. xoxo your friends the bugs.

*wipes forehead* thats a task with a slow computer and dial up! I wish I had the time to upload more, but I hope my garden can at least inspire those of you who feel like you have a black thumb of death like I did once.

Now off I go to fight my battles with cucumber beetles, pincer bugs, aphids, powdery mildew, late blight or something like it......   Cry  <---me sweating, or well, sometimes crying.

Haha! I loved reading that, don't be so hard on yourself, you've done a great job!! The summer has been so hot and harsh here in So. Cali, that I just harvested one (1) tomato yesterday evening, I've had one zucchini, a bit o' basil, a few bell peppers, and a handful of eggplant.  My melons never took off, neither did my green and yellow beans, or the cucumbers.  There's nothing for the bugs to eat!!!! I'm so frustrated after all the work I put into the garden, usually by now I'm making some really tasty organic dishes. Oh well, like you I guess I'll try for a winter garden!!

Say hello to my lil' friend!

I think your garden looks fantastic!!!

Between the rabbits, deer, insufferable heat and lack of rain the only thing doing real well in my dad's garden this year are the peppers! (the hotter and drier the better for them it seems)

Don't give up!

Vtgirl, man I am so happy I dont have deer. My husband was talking to his paternal grandma today and she was saying how nice his dads house in Tennessee is, how the deer come right into the yard, you should have seen me cringe!
