Back in elementary school we read Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes, too.  This year a guy at my school was battling cancer.  Remembering the story and how much we needed a miracle we quickly went to work making 1,000 paper cranes.  It took two, maybe three days for about 250 freshmen to make 1,000 paper cranes.  We assembled them all on a styrofoam hoop.  It looked really, really cool.  Maybe, if I have time and if anyone wants me to, I will post pictures.
Sadly Justin lost his battle with cancer in February.  We will never forget Justin and his 1,000 paper cranes.

that's lovely.

i made an origami mobile last summer using two wire clothes hangers. i unbent the wire and shaped it the way i wanted. then i attached cranes to the wire with twist ties and wrapped some transparent flowers i had made around the wire frame.

beautiful!  with the help of family, i had 1,000 paper cranes at my wedding.  once i had that many though, i didn't know what to do with them...so we decorated everything with them.  i used them to line a walkway entering the reception hall, decorated walkways outside, and we printed the names of the guests on the wings, and name cards.
