So I'm about to do my spare room. I want a vintage vegas feel, which (I thought) meant red walls, lots of velvet, pics of Rat Pack and maybe that playing card shade in another thread here. However, I found this fabric...

...and I think it would be great as curtains. It's kinda loud, but I also like the pink in it (and I found some rocking cool pink glitter that I'd like to spray paint an old TV with). And I'm thinking the pink walls might be loud, but with the loud curtains, they may mute each other out (a little). Still like the Rat Pack pics and things like that. But now I'm having problems thinking of other accessories that are vintage vegas PLUS will fit in a pink room.

HELP!

Any ideas?

im thinking big big big fluffy fluffy fluffy feathers in white. you know, like the feathers on cliche showgirl costumes. perhaps said feathers could be put in a big red or black vase, or made into a fan-like thing and hung on the wall.

HOw about a furry white rug...like the really long ones.  They kinda look like polar bears.  You could make your own coffee table with an organic shape or something almost boomerang like.  Or you could look for one, but the ones I've seen in vintage furniture shops are pretty pricey.  You could put fring at the bottom of a lamp shade with sequin trim to cover the seam.  Or you could even get a leg lamp like the one from "A Christmas Story".  I swear I just saw one on e-bay.  I also think that big overstuffed throw pillows in blacks and pinks would be really cool.  Wow...this is turning into my fantasy room! Grin  You could put floating candles in martini glasses on shelves hung at different levels. And a neon sign would be cool.  My boyfriend just got me a pink "Bada Bing" neon sign with the naked chick just like sopranos.  I was oogling over a huge one that was just way to expensive...I don't know where he found this one, but it kinda fits your theme.  ::shrug::

What a good idea for a room theme, I had never thought of that! Like alixia, I was thinking white and furry, only pillows. Here we have them at hlens, but I think I saw some just like them on US IKEA when I was watching 'Queer Eye...' a couple of weeks ago. I also second the martini glasses. And maybe buy a cubeshaped footstool, like this PLLBO by IKEA , and attatch some black felt to make it look like a dice.

Man you guys rock.  Grin

I LOVE the wall vase with feathers idea! That wouild be great! And the martini glass with candles would rock as well. And the coffee table I'd probably make on my own anyway because it's a small room and the vintage tables would probably be too big. I love the white cube made into dice as well! I'll probably make at least one of those for spare seating. Actually I have an old ottoman that my grandmother gave me that's falling apart and is god-awful orange and has paint spilled on it. I could make a cover for it that looks like dice.

Here's some of the other ideas I've had for the room:

Rasterbating this image for one wall...

The furniture is going to be my computer desk, my sewing machine, a small chest I bought at a flea market that will hold my craft supplies inside and my pink glitter TV on top, and a futon with grey metal frame and black pad.

I'd also like to make some throw pillows (at least one out of the curtain material with maribu trim) and some other fuzzy ones. Plus I want to make one of these...

...to hang in the corner, but without the gay flowers. ($155 is too much to spend on one!) I may have a small rasterbate image from swingers in there (when Mike and Trent are in Vegas). I also found a Sammy Davis Jr bobble head doll in ATL at Junkman's Daughter that I may get for the room.

Thinking about the playing card shade, but it may be too much. If I decide against it, I'll design something onto a roller shade. Maybe sketch the Vegas sign on it.

Also there was another thread just recently where the person got an old suitcase and decopaged shoes onto it. I want to do the same thing with a small one (think those kids "going to grandma's" suitcases) and putting vegas pics from travel flyers on it and putting it on a suitcase stand in the corner (its wasted space anyway) so it can be an nightstand for the futon, plus it can be used for storage.

I need to make a sign for the door. I like signs on all my doors. The one on my bedroom is "Abandon all hope all ye who enter here" in italian. The bathroom is "The Queen's Loo." Now I need another for this room. Maybe just, "Vegas, baby, vegas." and glitter it up.

The only other thing I want is an ashtray from the Sands for the room. And maybe a small velvet Elvis hanging by the closet (or on the closet door).

Too much? Can you see it? Any other ideas? Again, thanks you guys. You rock.

If you can........what about a "stripper pole" in one corner??? I think I saw this on trading spaces once. They just used a pipe and fittings from a home improvement store.
Also lighting, you have to have cool lighting maybe those rope lights around the top of the walls?
I love theme rooms......this sounds like an awesome one.......post pics when you get it done!!

The rope light sounds good, but I have a three year old niece who'll be in the room when she spends the night, so I think the pole would be out. Wink I could just see her playing on it and falling and busting her head open then I have to explain to the family that she got hurt playing on a fake strippers pole. hehehe.

I'll post pics! Promise! But it may be a while.

LURVING that fabric... I'm thinking white furry stuff is good (I've seen some perfect white fuzzy pillows on some design show.... hrmmm)
But how 'bout pink sparkly and white feather boas over the curtains, all drap-y like? wow, a zillion adjectives and i come up with that. here's a pic of what i think.... like my lovely artist's rendering? lol. I could've made a more lifelike pic with pictures from online catalogs, but I was afraid of what i'd see if i searched "feather boa" in an image search... lol
anyway, the link:

AND SEQUINS, BY GOD, SEQUINS!!!!!!!!!!
ok, sorry, it just dawned on me. lotsa sequins are needed.
I'm wondering if a mask with feathers sticking outta the top and a ton of sequins would be good or too Mardi-Gras -ish?
I know they have the plain masks and decorations at Michaels....
hmmm. They have feather boas there too! yay!

Simply and Funky: I could kiss you both on the lips. Those are great ideas. I could cover the suitcase in the postcards and casino images, and I so heart the curtain/boa deal. I have no idea why I didn't think about that. They'd make great tiebacks as well.
