Here's my latest melted bead project: a jellyfish!   Cheesy

First I melted pony beads in a round cake pan -- mostly clear, but with some pink and yellow around the edges and some pastel white beads in a ring and in the center.

I then re-melted it over the back of a bowl. I wanted to ensure that the ruffled sides of the jellyfish would be more or less evenly distributed, so I rigged up a ring of aluminum foil and toothpicks to try to enforce where the ruffles would be.

It worked out well! The ruffles were relatively even, but with some variations.

For tentacles, I strung white and clear beads (not melted) on fishing line, then strung them through holes drilled in the central plate. There's also fishing line in the center to hang the jellyfish with (the small colored disk is a separate piece of plastic I had lying around from a previous melting experiment and I used it to sneak some color into the underside).

Here's another shot from above:

I know that a real jellyfish also has tentacles around the outside edge as well; I had thought about adding eight pieces of fishing line around the edge, hanging down, each with 2-3 beads down at the end. However I am concerned about the amount of weight that the central piece of plastic line is already holding; I want to find some heavier-duty fishing line and re-string the center of the jellyfish so it can take the weight.

neat, I looooove the colors you picked out too. Smiley

You came in from the darkness and held the door open wide
You stood there like a vision before my unbelieving eyes
I believe in what I see and also what I hear
But did the night play tricks on me or were you really there.
