So. I am planning to make this dress in black for a friend for the carnival parade. We are Roman Catholic and going as female slutty priests (we have a way to get churches full again Tongue I'm wearing a ducktape corset and a scrap of black cloth as skirt hehe). but I don;t have the fabric or her measurements or the time to make the full sized one... and I literally had a scrap of fabric from when my mom made me bear/doll clothes, and couldn't sleep. it was a crazy shape (like full width but shaped like a staircase). And I had a naked bear in my room (we got it for free as an advertising stunt but it only had on an ugly promotional shirt). So. with a piece of 30x36 and a piece of 13x45 fabric I made the bear dress (and a temporary bear corset).

sorry for bad quality, webcam-made and only light is from my (pink) table lamp and the laptop screen. It was 1.40 am when I took the picture, and Mum thinks I'm asleep (2am now). Background is my bed cover btw.

Bear measurements: height 30 cm, waist circumference (while corseted) 24 cm
Circle skirt: inner circle: 3,5-4cm radius , outer circle 15 cm radius
straps: 7,5 wide, 45 long
no waistband - - - - (all cm)

material: a scrap of wrinkled cotton (I think)

What I did is corset the bear. I needed a 30x30 square for the circle, so cut off the rest. Wrapped the bear waist and butt with it (so it was the slightly squished filling, not fur I was measuring and getting it on/off was easier). Then just cut the skirt and straps (which were too short at 1,5x height) and sew them together (by hand and I cannot hand-sew at all). The raw edge at the back isn't a problem because of the fur. covering it. Put the dress on the bear and cut off the corset. Tried to tie the straps, but they are way too short. I can cross them in the back and come to the front, but I don't have enough to tie in the front. So it is halter-style with long ends. Stuffed animals clearly need longer straps, maybe even 3-4x their height.

Hello! I came across this thread and desperately want to make an infinity dress! I've never sewed before, could I make this without a machine?

And what sort of fabric should I look for in the UK? Are there any cheap fabric places??

Thank you!

You surely can hand-sew it, all of mine (3 so far) are hand-sewn before I bought my sewing mashine.

Got a costume catalog in the other day and on the back was a witchy costume that had me in stitches. Yep, you guessed it, the infinity dress. They just did a tube for the bottom half instead of a circle skirt.

And yeah....I can make it for way less than $60

I've been meaning to make a brown one, but haven't had a chance.

Thankyou sooo much to pfirsch for that website that showed the ways of tying it  Kiss, I hadn't realised how wide the straps were, so have options to show as little or as much as I like. Definitely gonna make this dress now  Grin

Well,

I got a C for sewing in year 8, don't have a sewing machine yet BUT I have decided to make this dress for my bridesmaids.  Will do a practice one first and see what happens.  Has anyone got any photos of the dress with a half circle skirt or 3/4 circle skirt?

I made it in a half circle skirt, but that was mostly because I cut the waist so HUGE (got my numbers a little skewed)....

If I can find a photo, I'll post it.... it was not as full, but just fine to me.
