damnation! number one: i am indescribably in awe of the snape bag. how freaking cool is that? who even thinks of such awesome things? and then, to have the awesomeness to actually *make* it? LA! sweeeeet!

damnation! number two: alas, i was waiting for my mom to find her camera, so's i could upload pics of the stuff i made tinxerb (my first swap ever, so i desperately crave some validation), but my mom went and LOST HER CAMERA at the fair! gah! whine. cry. pout. sigh.

well, i do have another delightfully potter-y swap happening now (as do most of you, i believe)...so i suppose i can just start over. i shall attempt something ridiculously impossible, drive myself insane trying to make it, and then have tremendous swap anxiety over how it comes out and whether my partner will like it. so much to look forward to. lol.

That. Bag. Is. Incredible.

I want to make one for myself. NOW. Screw all other WIPs. Must make Potter Puffs bag.

So you charted your own image, right?
Did you use any bag pattern as a base?

Tell us more.

Bottles caps? Please!

*blushes* Well, wow. Thanks to everyone for the compliments!

Um, shuffar, I sort of made it up as I went along, and, well, it wasn't that great, turning out. I dunno, maybe you could use the booga bag as a reference? Yeah, that could work. I don't know. I knitted the bottom, then picked up stitches for each panel, then seamed the panels together. This didn't really work well. So...yeah.

You need yarn in:
3 different shades of grey. One for the base of the bag, one for two little lines to sort of make it look like bricks, one for the charts,
a shade of purple for dumbledore's eyelids,
skintones (paler for snape and darker for dumbledore)
two shades of purple (or one shade of purple, one of red...or whatever you want, for DUmbledore's robes.)
A shade of blueish for the sky
a tiny bit of pink
some green paint for the Dark Mark
some lime green for the spell...

And needles to match this yarn. I used um, 4.5s and worsted weight.

Um, I could email the charts I made up to anyone who wants them. But they're JUSt of the characters. I sort of guessed where to change from grey to blue... maybe ourglasslake would measure for you guys? I didn't... wait.

Whoa, I did write down what I did! This may not be what I ended up doing, but you know, I bet you could figure it out from there. Okay, we'll call the main grey A, the second colour of grey B and the blue C.

Botttom: cast on 30 sts, slipping first st of every row knit in st st until 14" from beginning, BO

Side one (I started with snape, or whatever..) pick up and knit 48 sts along the long edge. Knit five rows with A, then one row with B. (called the pattern. You will need to carry your main colour along.) K in St st until peice is 2" from PU rows (or two pattern repeats).  Now drop B, you won't be using it again.  Place markers for your chart, and begin knitting the character chart. When you are 14 rows into the chart, begin "castle wall", 4 sts A *5 sts C, 5 sts A* repeat to last four sts, 4 sts c.  Continue like this for four rows. Then, um, drop A and knit with the background in C and continue on your charting way. Uh... until it's done, and then... a little bit above it. Bind off.

Repeat for the other long side, then, for the shorter panel sides

Pick up and knit 30 sts. Knit as the first panels (omitting the chart) until as big as the first panels. put stitches onto holder. break yarn.

For second small panel, do the same, only when you get to as long as the other panels, place a marker and continue knitting until the handle is as long as you want it to be. Then, kitchener stitch to other stitches. Um, about an inch from each side of the base of the handle, use mattress stich to sew up.

I hope that works...
