i ended up with a big box of records after my grandfather's garage sale. i was planning to make record bowls out of them, but when i was looking for instructions i came across a couple of craftster folks who had made them into journal covers. i love making journals, so here's my first attempt at a record journal.

the records cut easily with an exacto knife, and i heated a straight pin over a candle to make the holes in the cover for binding. i actually cut the records too narrow for the paper signatures i'd made, but once i had the book bound i just used the edge of the cover as a guide to trim the paper down. so now all the paper is perfectly flush with the covers. i'm using this one as a graduation present. i think i may use some of the little records & make mini journals next.

What a great idea.  I would love to make one of those.  Is it hard to do?

Very nice and very professional! Aren't the edges a bit sharp, or did you polish them or something?

it was actually pretty simply. the records cut easily with an exacto knife. i just made the cut over & over again until i could bend the record along the cut line & it snapped off. and a hot needle will go right through the record to make the holes to bind it.

i was expecting to have to sand down the edges, but they weren't sharp at all. the edge was a nice, clean break, but not sharp to the touch.

Excellent, I'm addicted to buying records just to buy. Now I have something to do with them! Thanks for sharing-Misty
