Tomorrow I plan to begin renovating our downstairs half bathroom; my decorating scheme is "Wunderkammer" or "Cabinet of Curiosities."  This is the bathroom we use most frequently and also the one which visitors use, so I'd like it to be interesting, if not fascinating.  Smiley  Currently it is quite bleak.  White walls, dark brown trim.

The room is dominated by this old Disneyland poster that my husband inherited from a friend.  We hate Monsanto, so we want to get rid of it.  There's also a huge bulletin board, which is kind of weird to have in a bathroom...  Tongue

The floor is especially sad, as I used the wrong kind of vinyl floor tile and it is all coming up:

The light fixture is also pretty tragic.  Seems like there ought to be something else on that wall...We purchased the house in a rudimentary form which included only the cheapest fixtures.  Now that we actually own the house, I'd like to fix it up some by replacing with better quality fixtures and decorating it a bit.

I will be updating this thread with my plan and progress.

Any ideas, advice, or links to interesting spaces would be greatly appreciated!   Smiley

Slow incremental progress.  Next I will be framing the window opening.

Removal of the ugly medicine cabinet.  This niche will later contain a shadowbox or other display space, as you suggest, suereal.  Smiley

Sanding isn't too bad if you have the right sanding block.

Sanded and mudded again:

I think I have one more episode of sanding and mudding, and then sanding again, and I'll be ready for paint!   Cheesy

More very gradual incremental progress; sanded and primered walls and ceiling, old light fixture removed and wiring moved for new fixture.  Now need to patch the hole and finish touching up the walls, then ready for paint - at last!  I'm really hoping to start painting this week...

Thank you!  I wish it would go faster!

I've started "aging" the walls, but I have far to go before it looks like I want it to.  This is just two colors:
