My partner for the back to hogwarts swap wanted a bag she could carry her laptop in, so i decided to customize a sturdy messenger bag. This was a really fun project, and i used a variety of techniques.

for the background, i created a stencil of the castle. I drew it on freezer paper so i could iron it onto the blue fabric and paint over with grey paint.

afterward, i went back and added details with black and silver sharpie markers. the fabric was then fused to the flap of the bag and stitched down around the edges. I created a second stencil of "hogwarts alumni" directly onto the bag.

i also created several badges to decorate the bag. these were pinned on so she decide whether to have one or all on display at a time.

The gryffindor-her house- patch is crosstitched onto a fabric with a fine count. it's small but with the small stitches it took longer than i expected. it was one of my favorite parts though.

The owl patch is made from pieces of cream felt, then embroidered with floss.

her favorite character is ron weasley, so i made a felt crown patch, and altered a teaspoon to include his face on the handle, as "ron has the emotional range of a teaspoon."

i really enjoyed including so many of her favorites into one project. sometime i would like to create a personalized bag for myself.
