Hi. I have been knitting for a few years now, and just learned to crochet.

I normally use the stitch markers that you can buy from JoAnns. The circle plastic round ones.

I actually use them alot while I'm working on complicated patterns.

I also use it when knitting in the round to help me tell what side is the front, or when I need to make a decrease.

I've little experience making stitch markers. But a friend threaded beads on a safety pin and it made a cool way to mark her knitting.

I hope these will be acceptable.

(Image from FoxyBlue's New Swap Theme post - FoxyBlue gets all the credit for the idea to start up this swap, I'm just stepping in to organize!)

Like to crochet, knit, or just hook random pretty dangles to your clothing/cell phone/purse?  Enjoying clay, beading, or needle felting (or some other method of making them I don't know about/remember at the moment it's still early for me...)?  Then this is the swap for you!

The Basic Run-Down:

Swap name: Stitch Marker Swap
Craftster member who is organizing this swap: Smeddley
Sign-up date range: 4/20-5/5
Date to send item by: 5/25

Limited to a certain number of people? (optional): 24
Restricted to people who all live in the same country? No
Additional Age requirement? No

The fine print about my responsibilities:

Swap Organizer himself/herself meets these conditions:
- Has fully read the Swap Info Guide: YES
- Has successfully completed two swaps as a participant: YES
- Is not organizing more than three swaps right now: YES
- Will recruit a co-organizer or give all details to a Swap Moderator if this swap has more than 25 participants: YES
- Is at least 18 years old: YES

Swap Organizer will check each participant to make sure they meet these conditions:
- Has been a member for at least one month: YES
- Has posted at least 15 times: YES
- Has completed one swap successfully before signing up for multiple swaps at a time: YES
- Is not currently signed up for more than five swaps: YES
- Does not have any negative feedback: YES
- Participant has agreed that he/she is at least 16 years old: YES
- If within the US, understands that Delivery Confirmation number is required for this swap: YES
- If outside the US, understands that a mailing receipt copy is required for this swap: YES

Details of swap:
You have the choice of signing up for one or two partners, since this is a very small project.  Even very well-made stitch markers don't take too long!  Each "set" will consist of 4-6 markers with some theme.  Because you have the option of signing up for more than one partner, please no extras as part of the official swap.  Any extra stuff should go in the personal swap board, thank you!  We want this to be a fun, low-stress swap.

If you want to participate, information to send to organizer:

Name of swap
Craftster username
Email address
Your real name
Mailing address including the country
Would you be willing to ship to an address outside your own country?
Confirm that are at least 16 years old: (YES/NO)
Do you have any allergies?
Do you have any allergens in your home (cats, smoke, etc)?
One or two partners?

First, the big divide:
Making: Crochet (openeable) or Knit (closed-loop) or either?
Receiving: Crochet (openeable) or Knit (closed-loop) or either?

Then, the type:
What materials are you planning on making your stitch markers out of?
What materials would you not want stitch markers made out of?

Then, the specifics:
What colors would you love?
Any colors you'd hate?

Please list five themes ("beaded" or "sparkly" is a theme!) you'd like, in case of clay work or charms.  The broader, the better for this!

(please not that for people who just want beads, this may not be necessary, but for others it might be helpful!)

Do you have specific ideas or inspirations that would help your partner personalize your piece (Wists, Etsy Favorites, Flickr, etc)?

Anything else youd like your partner to know?

Also, remember to read the Swap Info Guide to find other rules about participating in a swap.

Yes, they're very easy to make! Everyone can do it!

I use the lobster claw style jewelry clips for my crochet markers (I also often put alphabet beads in them so if I have to "borrow" the hook, I can go back to it and know which one I was using!)

Here are some examples of mine:

(also, there's a slight delay in getting people signed up, my internet seems to be down at the moment and that's not something I want to attempt on my phone!)

I tried making stitch markers the way I saw my friend do it. They were less successful:

I mixed up one partner's favourite colours with a style I thought would fit the other partner and accidentally made a hybrid set :/  I've got two sets in one medium that I'll send if my experiment with the other medium doesn't work out.

But I tried beaded stitch markers for the first time!  I made a few for myself for practice.  You can really see how I manhandled the wire, but practice makes perfect?
