I surprised myself Leslie  Cheesy I even stopped looking at the "recent with pics" tab  Shocked

OK, here we go....

I have to say I am sat here with tears unashamedly streaming down my face. Both of my partners sent not only a flag for me but also for my eldest son,Josh who has really been in need of some prayers recently.
Josh was going to make me a Grandma, his daughter very sadly died in uetero. July was a particularly hard month for us as that is when she was due to be born. One of the themes I specified on my list was a memorial for Maya Starr and both Tanza and Abbeeroad have done us proud. Thank you seems inadequate but it is a most sincere and heartfelt thank you to you both.

First I opened Tanzas packet so I will share those with you now.

for Josh.

and for me

and from Abbeeroad

for Josh.

for me

They are beautiful and I love them all and I know that Josh will too. I don't know if either of us will be able to bring ourselves to hang them outdoors though! For now mine are going on to my mantlepiece alongside my summer wreath.

Looking through the gallery was an absolute joy, every flag completely different and wonderful.

Particular favourites (at this moment it can & will change!) are
"let go" by ShannonMN
"ascend" by Phizzychick
"may you grow" bySilentBlair

Thank you for hosting this Leslie & Susan  Kiss

Tanza, the "serenity" flag is beautiful!!

Today I received a fabulous flag from alteredmommy.  It is an amazing piece of art; no way am I hanging this outside!

The front lifts up to reveal a hidden pocket where I can write the things I am happy for!

The detail on these circles at the top is amazing.

and this little bird is the cutest thing!  It is printed on sheer fabric so the whole thing is very light and airy.

Thanks so much, Cheryl, this is really something special to me.  I love it!!

I received my flag from Susanb over the weekend but was working a craft show all weekend.  I didn't get a chance to open it until today and boy was I blown away when I did.

One of my prayer requests was for my brother who is a full time Firefighter.  This flag is amazing and so elegant with the perfect simple saying of "protect those who protect us", I am very moved and thrilled with it.  I was going to hang it on my porch but I showed it to my brother who is now going to take it to the station and fly it there.

Front of Flag - so beautifuly done and finished:

Back to show how
nicely it was finished:

Susan - I can't thank you enough for creating something so awesome for me - I really don't have the words to express how much it means to me.  I just wish I could yank mine out of the mail and redo it since it doesn't measure up to what I received.

I received my first flag yesterday, and it didn't take too long coming from Britain. Of course Phizzychick sent super-early, which helped a lot.

Look at how great this is! It includes not only one of the words from my list   but several of my other favourite textile things - vintage lace, linen, random stitching, etc.

Here's a detail to show the layers and the stitching.

And almost as good as the flag itself is this piece of printed card that Phizzy attached the flag to so it would stay flat in the envelope. Not a forbidden extra, of course, just packing material! Wink

Thanks for this!

Wulf

Received from ShannonMN a flag for my theme Let Go.  Ive been trying to write a succinct but descriptive post about how perfect the flag she created is for what Ive been working on releasing for some time now, but I cant seem to condense it down to less than a full page of typing, so this will have to suffice: its about love and anger and siblings and the death of my beloved mother.  And it isnt that Ive been hanging onto all of this or not moving forward, but I HAVE let things some things slide and some things slip and just ignored other things altogether, feeling adrift without my emotional anchor, though still making headway with life.

The joyful silhouette on Shannons prayer flag is a wonderful reminder of my sweet mama, who loved to dance, and who I know would be sad to think that I was even the tiniest bit held back by her loss.  Even the colors in the fabric and hand-painted stars are ones Mom would have liked (and I love how Shannon placed the print, too), so it makes me smile that much more every time I see it.

In the jungle-y overgrowth outside one of my living room windows I found a twiggish branch of a juniper I could slip through the slim pocket of the flag, so its now positioned where I can easily see it and be re-energized by what it symbolizes to me.

In a couple of weeks Ill bring it inside to stay.

Thanks so much Shannon; every time I spy your flag I truly feel like Im making a little more progess than before.

I received in record time from alteredmommy - "Create"

It is hand-painted fabric with buttons, some fibers (or fibres as you Great White North people say), and netting in the center.

A detail shot of the bunting and zipper pull accents:

And yay for me, I received an alteredmommy card! I saw your post in this project so I am thrilled to own one!

Thanks so much all! Whoo hoo!

That firefighter flag is really great and it's really awesome it's going to hang at the station!

I received from Waggonswest before I left for work on Saturday and am just now able to post pics.

First of all she sent me this flag with an angel and the word 'love' on it. I am a spiritual person who grapples with my religious views and have for some time now. My older sister is battling cancer and I pray daily for her. I asked in my questionnaire to have a flag to represent those prayers.

She also sent me a flag for my sister. She's going to be visiting me in a few weeks so I'll show her it then. If she wishes to take it back home with her I want her to. Otherwise I'll hang it outside with mine. (My sister lives in an apartment in Chicago so not sure if she'll have a place to hang it.)

Thank you so much, Waggonswest! I love my flags!

my wonderful prayer flag from MaryColleen arrived today! she created my flag using my favorite theme, my faith.

the lace is lovely! she selected it specially for me because i really like black and white a ton. the bright pink coming through the lace brought her to the quote on the back:

Faith is the light that guides us through darkness.

Wow!
and wow. I've been reading what some pastors have had to say about Colorado this week--and what my own pastor says. And to have a prayer flag that goes right to that is really a wonderful gift. Thank you so so much!

I received today from silentblair and it is the COOLEST!

She used bright colors, per my wishes, and then used the word "Experiment" to try out some cool techniques.
1 - Bleach pen and fabric marker
2 - Sharpie tie-dye with rubbing alcohol
3 - Rubber stamping
4 - Free-motion stitching

It's so funny/psychic/coincidental that I just discovered the Sharpie tie-dye method after seeing a post here on Craftster about faux-batiking. So as YouTube does, I watched all the videos that were suggested along with the batik ones. And I was hoping for a Round 2 of this swap so I can try it out. I just love the message, the effort that went into making it and it will serve as a reminder to me to think outside the box!!

Here's the back view - just because:

I will show an action shot, when I receive the second one. I bought those sticky hooks that go on your wall and don't leave any residue to hang my flags on over sewing/craft table.

Yahoo! I love this swap!

I got a wonderful flag from Calluna.  It is absolutely perfect- and sparkly too!  Doesn't get any better than that, I love it. Cheesy

It says "There is beauty inside outside throughout"

I only wish I was able to capture the colors in her felting...it's really a gorgeous purply/pinky color.  With sparkles (yay sparkles!).  I love the organic look of it.

I haven't hung it up properly yet, it's just on the wall with ribbon so I can gaze at it for the moment. Smiley  Thank you so much, Calluna!  You've been an awesome partner!

The flag theatreorchid sent me is rocking my socks off:

(the scanner shows the detail better than a photo for this particular flag)
I had a whole truckload of themes/prayers on my list, but I'm sure it became clear in our conversations how suffocated I feel while stuck living in a heavily-polluted area and how much I value being in nature (and how jealous I am that she lives in the Pacific Northwest  Cheesy)...She gave me a forest as a result! The tree to the left says "breathe"; much easier to see in-person than to capture on the screen. The trees in the foreground are sewn onto the green surface, and all the details and background are painted/drawn.

And here is the beautiful back, with variegated embroidery...I didn't expect so many people to do nice things with the backs of the flags! (Lacking a sewing machine, the fabric ones that I'm making have so far been unfinished on the back, but maybe I should stick some backing fabric on with fusible web or something....)

It was all wrapped up in tissue paper with a lovely note and it feels like something sacred. It is exactly what I need, and I love it!

I received my flag from Mandys_Momma on Wednesday but have not had a chance to post pictures until now.  She also picked the Firefighter theme and I am so pleased.  I am going to give this one to my Brother as well to hang at their other station so both have one!

The flag is just awesome wiht the greatest boot on it.  I love that both of my flags had the same theme but they are so different.

Close up of boot - isn't it perfect?

Thank you so much Mandys_momma, I love it.  Yours is on its way, I will send the DC # to you now!

The firefighter boot from mandys_momma is great, and how wonderful that it will hang in a fire station where it will mean so much to so many!  And, your owl flag is so cute!  Love the details on the owl.

Waggonswest, I love your sun-painted flag! It does indeed convey harmony.

Today I received this wonderful prayer flag from the talented Phizzychick!  I love the colors, and the stamped letters spelling out "peace".  The birds' nest is cut from a piece of fabric and appliqued in place, and the bird theme is continued in the ribbon at the bottom of the flag.  The whole piece is just lovely!

There's even a flower on the back!

Thanks so much, George, I love this beautiful flag; it really is perfectly peaceful!
