For my Random Act of Crafty Kindness, I started out wanting to do something big for someone, but ended up doing something small for many people—hoping that the total impact would be big.

I made these cute pincushions for everyone who signed up for the Fabric Basket Swap that I was coorganizing--I always wish I could send something to everyone who signs up for one of my swaps, so this time I did!   Since this would be a group of sewists, I decided to make each person a heart-shaped, tie-on pincushion based on some that I saw on the Better Homes and Gardens website.
Since I didn’t know how many would sign up, I had to plan to send to as many as 40 people (the maximum our swap would take)!  I cut out the wool felt for 40 pincushions, but in the end I only had to send 17—that is the “random” part, since I didn’t know who or how many people would be involved in my RAK.  Here's an "in progress" shot:

I know it’s fun to receive something that’s a surprise, so I wanted to add to the fun by sending them anonymously.  A few people knew it was me right away, because we have swapped, and they knew my address (I put my return address but not my name on the envelope).  There was only one international swapper, and I did put my name on her envelope to be certain it would reach her.  That was Wendiek, who coorganized a swap with me recently, and she pm’ed me soon after she received.  Her note of happy surprise and thanks really made my day—and she said I made HER day.  That’s the reward of these little acts of kindness, both for the giver and the receiver.

Here are a few of the hearts before they were tucked into envelopes and mailed:

Another aspect of randomness developed on Tuesday, Feb. 21st, the day most of the envelopes were delivered.  StickerChic87 posted a picture of her heart in the challenge thread, and then other people started chiming in that they had received one too!  It was all I could do to keep from posting “you’re welcome!” to the people who said “thank you” there!  That part was the most fun for me, and I kept checking back to see if anyone else had posted about receiving.

This was a great idea for a challenge, and it was so much fun for me, from start to finish!
