Today's nap time (I.e. spend time on the computer when I should be crafting....) has been spent on mug ruggery! I went looking for new inspiration after spending time on figuring out some of your lovely partners!

So I decided I would share some of what I found! I found that searching for coasters and placemats can find you some cool ideas that can be adapted for mug rug size!

Some of these things I pinned and some I just wanted to share (cause I love them but not enough to pin them)

Its a knitted owl coaster! (which could totally be a mug rug!)

(Look at that rick rack edging! This one if on my pinterest!)

I love the piping edging!

I think these would look awesome in mug rug size! (especially for a tea pot)

I love the doily on this one and the crocheted edging.

Oh and there is even a mug rug group on flickr! http://www.flickr.com/groups/mugrugmadness/

I hope this inspires everyone!! Please feel free to share what your coming across out there too!!!

Is a coaster just to small for your drink but a placemat is just to big? Then you NEED a mug rug!

In this swap well be crafting one mug rug for our partners.

- Mug rugs can vary in size and shape but should be roughly around 5 x 8.
- Any techniques can be usedpatchwork, embroidered, knit, etc. but keep in mind that the rug should be able to absorb a bit of moisture and protect surfaces from warm drinks.
- Please only send one completed mug rug. No extras.
- We will not be doing 2 partners this round (hopefully next time).
- Posting to the discussion thread or PMing organizers is required at least every 2 weeks.
- Have fun!!

I'm really excited to start! I've already got my idea and fabric choices for dfabbric =)

I was just wondering if anyone had any suggestions about stitching on an irregular shape applique. Kinda like this:

I've done it a couple of times by hand and I think I'm getting fairly good at it, but I wondered if there is maybe a neater/more effective way of doing it. Thanks!

I always just use a little heat and bond lite and then either hand stitch over it or use my machine. I also will sometimes use a little fray check on the edges. I found this tutorial once and have been meaning to try it. I don't know how well it will work (depending on the shape and all)

I think my shape will be a little too irregular to try out that tutorial, but looks like an awesome idea!
I will, however, get some heat and bond =) Thanks!

I'm all about felt applique.  No fraying to worry about.  (Yes, I know it's the lazy way.)

Nah, it's not lazy, it's a totally different style Wink

just wanted to show you all one of the "practice" rugs I made while figuring out what to do for my partner.... the little wonkey house isn't an applique, which I usually do, I wanted to try and piece it together, I was pretty happy with the way it turned out
