I actually really like the way this is turning out.  I still have to finish hemming a sleeve and the bottom of the jacket.  Unfortunately, I've set it aside for now since the hem has to be understitched by hand and my patience was wearing thin.  I'll finish it up sometime this winter because I definitely do want to wear it. Ugly fabric I used:

Close up of fabric (it's some sort of leftover burlapish fabric that I can only assume was used to cover furniture in the early 70s:

Front lining (leftover fabric my grandmother made drapes with a long time ago:

Me wearing it:

Another shot of the lining:

I'm going to add a nice old fashioned, sparkly button to the front eventually.  The pattern I used was http://img.sewingtoday.com/cat/40000/itm_img/M5244.jpg.  I made view C but didn't like the way it looked with the collar standing up, so I just folded it down.

OK, looked through the statsh and actually found several ugly things.  For some reason this kept jumping out at me:

Yes, they're pears.  Yes, It's orange.  I have no clue what I originally purchased this for, but I have two yards of it.  Any ideas??
I was thinking maybe a jacket lining or a skirt?  What do you all think??

OMG!  I've just been checking out jacket patterns on the web, and I absolutely found what I'm going to do!

Here is the pattern I've chosen:
View B (Girl sitting w/ brown jacket)
The main part will be in blue, and the lining, little flouncy cuffs, and pocket edging will be in the pear fabric.  I may applique a little pear on the flap of each pocket, too.

If I don't already have this pattern in my stash, I'll pick one up at Hancock's next week (on sale $.99 Aug 1-4). I'm pretty excited about this.  I think it may turn out really cute!
