33  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / octo-bag on: May 23, 2009 09:39:44 PM
When I saw Seraphina_de_Sangre's poppet work I asked if we could do a personal swap. She said yes and I asked what she would like and she said a octopus bag. Here is the deal, I am terrified of sea critters, especially fish and tentacle-y fellows so I was a bit nervous. I found a coloring book pattern of a friendly looking octo that I could work with and after 5+ hours (on and off) of stitching I had this:

Octo is made with neon colored thread and glow thread with some black, mostly back stitched with a bit of an angle at some places to look like he/she is under water. After stitching I cut it out, then drew in some bubbles with a mixture of acrylic & fabric paint to give the bubbles a softer feel. I used fabric tack to place the patch on the back & then used pink satin cord to outline the patch with fabric tack.

I had fun making this bag. I even had a happy dream in which I was swimming with a pink octopus in a pool! I went out and bought me a blue plush octopus the next day!

I feel as though Octo has a Indian deity look to him/her, maybe that is why this octopus brought  me some good dream karma!

Please do give me feedback/positive criticism. I have not been at embroidery long but I love it!

I made this last minute for a pal who was performing last night in town. I just embroidered a unicorn on white cotton, made it into a patch and backed it with a polk a dot print fabric. She is all about the letter U so I busted out the lil U letters for the frame. Sorry about the crappy quality of the photo, I was in a rush!

39  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / Talk About The Swap Process / 2 weeks late & bad communication - help on: May 08, 2009 06:21:46 PM
I am hosting a swap. There is one person who has had poor communication and says she will send, then I contact to see if she has sent and she says she will send on another day. I had her partner hold off on sending. At this point I think I should find her partner an angel - what is an angel who gets a package in return called?

At this point should I leave negative feed back for the bad communication/not sending a package person? Or since there was no package received do I have the mods void her?
40  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / sugar skulls, loteria cards, mexican kitsch on: May 01, 2009 11:54:00 AM
I know the calendar says we have a bit till dia de los muertos but there is a year around interest in my home & I am sure a lot of crafter-folks homes. Also crafts containing loteria (bingo) cards, punched tin, paper flowers, all things crafty that you might find in Mexico.

I live in an area where I can get lots of fun Mexican trinkets and those have given me ideas. Would anyone be up for a swap centering around Mexican kitschy items?

Ideally the swap will start taking sign ups starting in a week or so.
